The violence, the attacks, the threats to life and limb in New York City's subway system have gotten so bad the governor is insisting that National Guard troops be deployed to protect the innocent civilians trying to commute to work.

Just the News is reporting that Gov. Kathy Hochul has ordered deployed 1,000 soldiers and state police officers.

They are to patrol the subway system and check the contents of bags – all because of major crime spiking in the system.

"These brazen, heinous attacks on our subway system will not be tolerated," she charged, citing a number of high-profile assaults.

She said the goals will be to deter crime and protect people.

The bag searches are intended to make sure weapons are not brought into the system.

Her plan involves 750 National Guard members and 250 state police officers and Mass Transit Authority police who now will be patrolling the system.

January 2024 saw a 45% spike in crime from just a year earlier.

The New York Post said the law enforcers will be concentrated on the busiest parts of the system.

"No one heading to their job or to visit family or go to a doctor appointment should worry that the person sitting next to them possesses a deadly weapon," Hochul said. "They shouldn’t worry about whether someone’s going to brandish a knife or gun. That’s what we’re going to do with these checkpoints."

Three New York residents have been shot and killed on trains and subway platforms this year alone.
