Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) says the Biden White House’s reported new proposal to give some $450,000 to undocumented migrants is a “slap in the face” to Americans.
According to The Daily Wire, the comments from the GOP governor came after a report from the Wall Street Journal said President Joe Biden’s administration had been “in talks to offer immigrant families that were separated during the Trump administration around $450,000 a person in compensation.”
The development reportedly comes as government agencies including the Department of Homeland Security “work to resolve lawsuits filed on behalf of parents and children who say the government subjected them to lasting psychological trauma,” the Journal said. Families could reportedly receive up to $1 million each.
“This should not be allowed to stand”
It’s all too much for DeSantis, who reacted to the news during a press conference Monday.
“I mean, you think about it, Americans are getting more in their gas bills, they’re getting more in their grocery bills. You’ve had all kinds of really bad policies throughout our country that [have] limited freedom. And you’re going to turn around for that, and you’re going to do $475,000 for an individual that came illegally to this country?” the governor said incredulously, according to The Daily Wire.
“I’ve seen a lot in my day. I’ve seen a lot that’s happened over the last nine or 10 months that I didn’t think I’d ever see, but this takes the cake,” DeSantis added.
“If that is done, that is going to be a slap in the face to every hard-working American who works hard and plays by the rules and it will especially being a slap in the face to people that have immigrated legally to this country,” he charged.
“That should not be allowed to stand. It’s wrong,” DeSantis said of the idea. “And whatever we can do in Florida to fight back against it, we will do.”
A new low for Joe Biden
Indeed, the idea marks a new low for the Biden administration as it continues to prove that it puts Americans last. The president’s ill-advised economic policies have kicked off rampant inflation, and spending millions of taxpayer dollars on his pricey agenda will only exacerbate the problem.
Thankfully, Gov. DeSantis isn’t the only one taking a stand against Biden’s expensive agenda. Tuesday’s elections in states across the country were a bloodbath for Democrats and — more importantly — a referendum on the president’s disastrous tenure in office.
Americans nationwide went to the polls and decidedly rejected Democrats’ pricey plans. Even Virginia, which Biden won comfortably in 2020, flipped red. It can only be a sign of good things to come looking to November 2022.
