Former Trump trade official says charges will soon be filed in Durham probe: ‘There will be indictments’

Trump insider and former White House trade official Peter Navarro has alleged that indictments are soon coming from U.S. Attorney John Durham and his investigative team.

According to Newsmax, Navarro told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on this week’s Sunday Morning Futures that he believes at least three people will face charges related to the now-special counsel’s probe into the origins of the infamous Trump–Russia collusion investigation.

“There will be indictments, I will guarantee that, at least three indictments,” he said, as Newsmax reported.

“Equally important, there will be people that are going to be forced to leave the FBI because of their complicity in what happened,” Navarro added. “This is a scandal that attacked democracy. It was a coup d’etat against a president that hadn’t been elected.”

Durham’s probe

Durham was first tasked more than a year ago by then-Attorney General Bill Barr with investigating the origins of what former President Donald Trump has called the collusion “hoax.”

In December 2020, Durham was made a special counsel by Barr, adding additional protections to his investigation ahead of a transition of power in the White House, The New York Times reported.

According to the New York Post, sources have said Durham’s probe is now largely focused on alleged wrongdoing by the FBI.

Thus far, only one official has faced prosecution over the matter: FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who, according to the Post, “pleaded guilty last August to doctoring an email that led his agency to wiretap former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.”

The Post said “Clinesmith was spared jail time and instead sentenced to one year probation and 400 hours of community service.”

The bottom line

Navarro, for his part, was known for his staunch support of then-President Trump’s economic and trade policies, despite their disagreements on many social issues. Nowadays, he still has Trump’s back — and if he’s is right in his predictions, other supporters of the former president may soon have reason to celebrate.

Ever since it was discovered that the FBI acted with political motivations to try and sabotage the Trump campaign in 2016, Americans have been waiting for the hammer to fall and for real consequences to be dealt out. If Navarro is correct, we could finally be getting the first good news out of Durham in months.

At long last.
