Based on conventional wisdom and historical trends, Democrats stand to lose seats in the House in the 2022 midterm elections, an outcome that — given the slim majority House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is currently clinging to — almost certainly means Republicans would reclaim control of the lower chamber.
That is the view held by GOP strategist Karl Rove, who insisted in a recent interview with Fox News that the question is not whether Democrats will lose the House, but rather, by “how many seats” they will find themselves in the minority.
Biden’s lies could cost Dems
Rove’s comments about the dreary future faced by Pelosi and Democrats in the House came during an appearance Thursday on America’s Newsroom with co-hosts Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino.
First discussed was an op-ed Rove recently published in the Wall Street Journal comparing Biden’s claims that the $3.5 trillion spending package still being worked out on the Hill will cost “zero” dollars with Barack Obama’s patently false sales pitch on Obamacare: “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” the former president said more than a decade ago about the Affordable Care Act.
Both, Rove said, were known to be untrue from the beginning. That, combined with his numerous other failures since taking office last January, has left Biden plummeting in the polls, a development that could cost Dems when voters hit the polls for midterms next November.
“Not just those states”
Hemmer drilled down on Biden’s sinking approval ratings, particularly in a number of key swing states heading into 2022, during Rove’s appearance on Fox.
“I don’t know what else is underneath there but none of that sounds good for a president who has been in office for eight and a half months,” the Fox host said.
“No. In fact, if you look at it, it is not just those states,” Rove replied, according to Fox. “If you’re dropping in states all across the country, you’re dropping in all of the states across the country.”
Rove added of Biden: “He is underwater nationwide and underwater in critical battleground states that are gonna decide the outcome of the 2022 Senate races and he is gonna be underwater in critical battleground congressional districts.”
“The question is how many”
To close out the interview, Rove said confidently that he thinks “Democrats are gonna lose the House of Representatives” come November 2022, “no ifs, ands, or buts about it.”
“The question is how many seats they will lose,” he said, as Fox reported. Take a look for yourself:
