‘The People’s Convoy’ of trucks finally reaches Washington DC

“The People’s Convoy,” made up of several hundred big rigs and passenger vehicles, has reached Washington D.C., Breitbart News reports

In case you’re unfamiliar with the situation, it’s a reference to the U.S. truck convoy that was inspired by Canada’s Freedom Convoy. The Freedom Convoy is a trucker-led protest in response to the Canadian government’s COVID-19 vaccine and other pandemic-related mandates for cross-border truckers.

The point of “The People’s Convoy” is also to protest COVID restrictions. The convoy began its journey in Adelanto, California, on Feb. 22, with Washington D.C. as its destination.

Now, the convoy has arrived in the nation’s capital.

The latest

During its journey from California to Washington D.C., The People’s Convoy grew substantially. It is now said to be over 2 miles long, consisting of several hundred trucks and more than 1,000 other vehicles.

The convoy on Sunday drove around Interstate 495, also known as the D.C. Beltway. According to Breitbart News, it’s “a 64-mile loop that surrounds the nation’s capital, covering Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.” The convoy, according to reports, did slow traffic down, but it did not completely stop traffic.

The convoy plans to circle the D.C. Beltway on Monday.

The final destination?

The big question is whether the convoy plans to try to go to the White House. There have been several reports indicating that the convoy, or at least a part of it, may go there.

One report from the Washington Examiner cites Dan Fitzgerald, one of the convoy’s organizers, as saying, “I can tell you now that there will be select trucks going to the White House.”

Another question is how President Joe Biden would respond if it were to happen. We all witnessed the iron-fisted approach that was taken by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau against the participants of The Freedom Convoy.

In the meantime, it is being reported that a number of truckers from The People’s Convoy will leave their trucks behind as they take a trip to the Capital on Monday. There, they will meet with lawmakers who have agreed to hear their concerns.

The good news is that most of the Democrats are now ditching their COVID-19 restrictions. It is still important, though, to make sure that politicians can’t impose such restrictions again in the future.
