The left calls for Justice Thomas’s impeachment

Members of the political left are calling for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be impeached, the Washington Examiner reports

Among those leading the way is far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). “Clarence Thomas needs to be impeached,” Omar tweeted on Thursday.

The “why?”

The call for Thomas’s impeachment comes following a report that CBS News and the Washington Post that was released on Thursday.

The report is based on leaked text messages, following the 2020 presidential election, between Thomas’s wife, the conservative advocate Virginia Thomas, and then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The messages were obtained by the partisan House committee that is “investigating” the Capitol protests of January 6, 2021.

According to CBS, the text messages show Virginia Thomas asking Meadows “to pursue unrelenting efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.”

“The messages, which do not directly reference Justice Thomas or the Supreme Court, show for the first time how Ginni Thomas used her access to Trump’s inner circle to encourage and seek to guide the president’s strategy to overturn the election results — and how receptive and grateful Meadows said he was to receive her advice,” the outlet reports.

No examples were provided by CBS.

Same old narrative

One question that you might be asking yourself is “what do text messages from Thomas’s wife to Meadows have to do with Thomas?” It’s a good question, especially given that, in the past, Virginia Thomas has made it clear that she and her husband don’t involve each other in their work.

Nonetheless, the left, now, will push the old narrative that Virginia Thomas’s political career jeopardizes Thomas’s ability to carry out his duties as a Supreme Court justice. It, after all, would be convenient to impeach Thomas to allow President Joe Biden to appoint another justice to the bench.

The Washington Examiner notes that there has only been one Supreme Court justice in the history of America who has been impeached. It was Justice Samuel Chase, back in 1805, for allegedly being too partisan. Chase, though, was acquitted by the Senate.

All of this is taking place, by the way, with Justice Thomas in the hospital. He was admitted last week with “flu-like symptoms,” and was diagnosed with an infection. An update on his condition has yet to be provided.

It goes to show just how low the left will stoop.
