Some bad news came for team Trump just before the Fourth of July weekend.
Positive, but asymptomatic
Guilfoyle, who is Donald Trump, Jr.’s girlfriend, found out about the positive test result just before the big Fourth of July Mount Rushmore event that took place on Friday night. Times’ reporter Maggie Haberman cited “a person familiar with her condition” for the report.
According to this insider, before heading to South Dakota, the group was tested for the coronavirus, and Guilfoyle’s test came back positive.
Sergio Gor, the chief of staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee has since provided an update on Guilfoyle’s condition. “She’s doing well, and will be retested to ensure the diagnosis is correct since she’s asymptomatic, but as a precaution will cancel all upcoming events,” Gor said. He added that Guilfoyle “immediately isolated to limit any exposure.”
No contact with the president
According to Haberman’s report, Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. traveled to South Dakota on Friday together, but not aboard Air Force One.
Furthermore, Guilfoyle and Trump Jr., when they did eventually make it to South Dakota, never did meet up with President Trump and his group, reports the Times. In other words, Guilfoyle and Trump never came into contact. And so, if the president was unfortunate enough to get COVID-19 in the near future it wouldn’t have come from Guilfoyle.
It is also being reported that Trump Jr. has since been tested for COVID-19, and he remains negative. Neither was seen in attendance at the president’s speech on Friday night at Mount Rushmore.
Both Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. are planning on driving back to the East Coast from South Dakota “out of caution” to prevent any spread of the coronavirus.
“Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers! I feel good thanks be to God and look forward to a speedy recovery so I can resume working to re-elect @realDonaldTrump,” Guilfoyle tweeted on Saturday morning.
Not the first one
Guilfoyle is now the latest member of President Trump’s inner circle to have tested positive for COVID-19. Dating back to May, there were at least two other individuals — the president’s personal valet and Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary.
Since she is asymptomatic, Guilfoyle is expected to be tested again to confirm that she does indeed have the coronavirus.
