The recently-established Capital Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle, also known as CHAZ, is getting quite a bit of attention among younger progressives in this country.
CHAZ has inspired liberals in other parts of the nation to consider launching autonomous zones of their own, but Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) has already warned his citizens that such a scenario will not be tolerated in the Volunteer State, according to Breitbart.
For those who may not have not seen it, the CHAZ in Seattle is a public disgrace by most measures, with graffiti everywhere, residents having to show identification to access their own homes, and reports of businesses being extorted by leftist organizers in order to continue operation with the zone.
While the group responsible for the CHAZ in Seattle does not recognize the government, it is also reportedly asking for handouts to support its very existence (not exactly faithful to the meaning of autonomous).
According to The Tennessean, rumors began to circulate that in the wake the establishment of the CHAZ in Seattle, like-minded individuals planned to build an autonomous zone Nashville as well.
However, Gov. Lee was quick to squash any such notion, declaring that attempts to implement a similar social experiment would be met with a swift response.
“We encourage Tennesseans to exercise their First Amendment rights and have seen many examples of peaceful protests across our state in recent weeks,” he said, according to Breitbart. “As demonstrations continue, we will continue to protect Tennesseans’ right to peaceful assembly, while also reassuring citizens that lawlessness, autonomous zones, and violence will not be tolerated.”
Study in contrasts
By many standards, the mayor of Seattle, Jenny Durkan (D), has completely failed to get the situation in her city under control. She has not only allowed the takeover of six city blocks by protesters, but she has also visited the area personally and seems to be openly promoting it.
For as long as I can remember, Capitol Hill has been autonomous – it’s always been a place where people go to express themselves freely. Today at the #CHAZ, I spoke with organizers and community about how we can move forward and keep our communities safe, together. pic.twitter.com/XhtXHiIl9K

Durkan is effectively treating those who seized this section of Seattle as elected officials rather than anarchists who have literally hijacked a portion of her own city.
The fallout for Durkan has been significant, and the mayor has faced calls for her resignation, yet she remains unmoved, according to Fox News.
If Durkan and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) continue to do nothing and let anarchy reign on the streets of the state’s capital city, perhaps President Donald Trump will have no choice but to fulfill his pledge to take care of the matter himself.
