It’s been nearly three months since President Joe Biden tapped Vice President Kamala Harris to take charge of investigating the “root causes” of the immigration crisis, but to this day, virtually nothing has changed. In fact, many have argued that the situation has worsened in that time — and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is among them.
According to Fox News, the Texas Republican held nothing back as he excoriated Harris in a recent Fox & Friends interview, accusing the VP of being too scared to visit the southern U.S. border to get a firsthand look at what’s really happening on the ground and even likening her efforts so far to nothing more than a “comedy show.”
A “complete and total abdication”
Cruz’s criticism of Harris — and the president — came on the heels of Harris’ return from a trip to Guatemala and Mexico, which was a waste of time by many accounts, as she made no discernable progress in stemming the flow of migrants fleeing from Central American countries.
“It is a complete and total abdication by the federal government,” Cruz told Fox. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are quite simply not doing their job. They’re refusing to enforce the law and they’ve created an unmitigated crisis at the border.”
The Texas senator went on to recount his recent trip to the border, essentially saying that the situation on the ground is much worse than what’s being acknowledged by the Biden administration.
He also highlighted the skyrocketing number of illegal border-crossers pouring into the United States each month, while warning of the unprecedented numbers the country faces in the near future as Biden and Harris seemingly look the other way.
“We had just last month over 180,000 people cross illegally last month. We’re on pace for 2 million people to cross illegally. And Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have zero intention of doing anything,” Cruz said, according to Fox.
“It’s almost like a comedy show”
Cruz suggested that one of the primary reasons Harris refuses to visit the U.S. border is because she’s afraid of the startling reality of the situation.
“Kamala, at this point, it’s almost like a comedy show. She’s so terrified,” Cruz said on Fox & Friends. “You know, it reminds me of that old show, ‘Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?’ She’ll go everywhere except the border because she’s afraid of what’s going on down there, and they have no solutions.
The GOP senator went on to claim that the immigration crisis plaguing America is an “assault on our sovereignty” while warning that Republicans need to “stand up and defend this great nation” from those who want to see American democracy trampled.
According to Fox News, Cruz isn’t the only Republican in Congress angry at Harris’ lack of progress on solving the immigration crisis. Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) and a group of 55 GOP House lawmakers recently signed a letter urging Biden to relieve Harris of her immigration investigative duties, citing her failure to make any headway.
“This country cannot afford another minute of inaction from Vice President Harris,” Grothman and his Republican colleagues wrote.
