The music world lost an absolute legend last week, and the sting of the untimely death still has his bandmates, family, friends, and fans in total shock and disbelief.

According to Fox News, Taylor Hawkins, 50, who was the drummer for the Foo Fighters for 25 years and easily the most recognizable member of the band next to founder Dave Grohl, was found dead in his hotel room Friday in Colombia, South America.

The District Secretary of Health in Colombia confirmed the rock legend’s death on Saturday, writing in a statement that he was found deceased in a hotel in the town of Chapinero, noting that the famed musician had reportedly suffered “chest pains.”

Hawkins was in the South American country on tour with the band, and they were set to play a show on Friday night in Bogota.

Statement released

An official cause of death has yet to be released, but local officials released a statement regarding how Hawkins was discovered.

“The city’s Emergency and Emergency Regulatory Center received a report about a patient with chest pain in a hotel located north of the city. An ambulance was dispatched to attend to the case,” Colombia’s District Secretary of Health wrote.

The statement, translated to English, goes on to say that medics attempted to perform “resuscitation maneuvers,” adding, “However, there was no response and the patient was declared deceased.”

The statement continued: “The District Secretary of Health mourns the death of this talented musician and drummer, widely recognized internationally for his work. In addition, the entity sends its message of condolences to the family, colleagues and followers.”

Honoring the greatest

Hawkins was widely regarded by his peers as one of the greatest drummers in existence, and it goes without saying that tributes to his life and work in the business began to stream in over social media when the news of his tragic passing hit the headlines.

“God bless Taylor peace and love to all his family and the band peace and love,” Ringo Starr wrote.

“@TaylorHawkins was truly a great person and an amazing musician,” rock legend Ozzy Osbourne wrote. “My heart, my love and my condolences go out to his wife, his children, his family, his band and his fans. See you on the other side – Ozzy.”

Virtually all living members of rock & roll royalty paid their respects to Hawkins over the weekend, along with millions of fans who were influenced by his musical talent over the past quarter-century. It goes without saying that he will be missed by many. Hawkins is survived by his wife and three children.
