Speaking at the 2025 Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in California on Thursday, liberal Justice Elena Kagan said that the high court has a "responsibility" to "explain" its emergency rulings, which are becoming more frequent during the Trump era as Democrat-run states seem to be suing his administration every time one of his executive orders doesn't go the way they'd like.
Justices “should be cautious about acting on the emergency docket,” Kagan cautioned.
“Courts are supposed to explain things,” she said. “I think as we have done more and more on this emergency docket, there becomes a real responsibility that I think we didn’t recognize when we first started down this road, to explain things better.”
Emergency rulings are typically done on an expedited basis and result in an unsigned ruling with no accompanying explanation.
There are also no oral arguments and limited briefing because of time limitations and the emergency nature of the case.
Such rulings can make it difficult to understand the legal basis for court's actions and leaves other jurists confused about how legal precedents work.
Normal rulings are usually accompanied by lengthy briefs that explain the reasoning behind the ruling.
The emergency rulings have been increasingly requested by the Trump administration because he is being sued constantly in a way that no other president before him has been.
Without the emergency rulings, his policies are in serious danger of being completely shut down by liberal judges ruling in a partisan manner and with malice toward Trump because they oppose him in knee-jerk fashion.
The court has recognized this tendency and doesn't want to see the country ruled in this way.
The left fully believes its own garbage about democracy being threatened by Trump, and the right fully believes it is the left that is threatening democracy.
Trying to weaponize the courts against a rightfully elected president is about as big a threat to democracy as it's possible to have.
If both sides can't see the error in thinking that every policy disagreement is a threat to democracy, the country is in big trouble.
Our unity appears to be fracturing beyond repair, and what's left might be a broken republic that can no longer function.
Several of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet-level picks drew initial scrutiny for their seemingly unconventional nature, but his choice to lead the Pentagon was -- and remains -- especially controversial to some.
Now, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is drawing scrutiny from the left once more for his decision to remove the first female head of the U.S. Naval Academy, a personnel change critics suggest is part of a larger pattern of anti-female bias, as The Hill reports.
At issue is the recent ousting of Vice Adm. Yvette Davis from the role of superintendent at the Annapolis, Maryland, service academy, a position she was the first woman in history to fill.
As The Hill notes, Davis’ removal is the most recent in a string of similar adjustments that has seen no fewer than five senior military members transitioned out of powerful roles.
Combined with what detractors suggest is Hegseth’s broader bias against women in the military, these changes have created for some an alarming trend that could harm unity and inclusiveness in ranks of the armed forces.
Obama-era Defense Secretary Leon Panetta argued, “It’s hard not to come to the conclusion that it’s going to weaken our military force by undermining the role of women who have become, I believe, an intrinsic part of our military capability.”
Panetta continued, “Just to remove commanders from their positions without cause sends a clear signal that this is not about merit, it’s not about performance, it’s about the fact that they’re women. It’s the only conclusion you can come to.”
However, supporters of Hegseth would assuredly point to a host of high-profile Pentagon departures that include plenty of men as support for the argument that it is not gender bias but rather a desire for transformational change that is driving the personnel decisions.
In the wake of a series of damaging information leaks, Hegseth took steps to remove senior advisor Dan Caldwell earlier this year, with Darin Selnick and Colin Carroll soon to follow, as The Hill noted separately.
It was not long after that John Ullyot, a former press assistant to Hegseth, was shown the door, a move also believed to have been related to leak concerns.
Former Pentagon team lead for the Department of Government Efficiency Yinon Weiss announced his departure from the Defense Department earlier this month, raising eyebrows yet again about Hegseth’s personnel upheaval.
Senior staffer Justin Fulcher, another senior staffer and adviser to Hegseth, also left his position this month, and though he suggested that he only intended to stay at the Pentagon for six months, rumors about the true reasons for his departure and his involvement in probes of prior leaks persisted.
Though Hegseth has been under fire for much of his tenure atop the DoD, with Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) going so far as to say that he regrets voting for his confirmation, the secretary has received support from a seemingly unlikely source, namely, former Vice President Mike Pence, as The Hill separately reported.
Certainly no friend of Trump’s, Pence stepped forward to defend his choice to lead the Pentagon, saying of the criticism Hegseth has received, “I don’t think it’s fair. I’ve known Pete Hegseth a long time – he’s someone who’s worn the uniform. I’m told that we’re exceeding goals in every branch of our armed forces, and so all of that is welcome news and positive,” and that is an assessment with which it is hard to disagree.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. allowed lampreys to bite on his arms while visiting the Nez Perce salmon hatchery in Idaho on Thursday, the UK Daily Mail reported.
Kennedy allowed the jawless parasitic sea creatures, which hold on with a sucker-like mouth, to give him "hickeys."
Kennedy has a history with parasites, including one that supposedly lodged in his brain more than a decade ago. However, it seems Kennedy was all in favor certain parisites after he let the lampreys latch onto him while showing off for a photo opportunity.
"Lampreys hickeys at the Nez Perce salmon hatchery in NW Idaho," Kennedy captioned the photos he posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Friday. The photos showed him holding the creatures in gloved hands while allowing the mouth part to attach to the underside of the wrist area and arms.

According to scientific research, there seems to be no benefit to having the lamprey attach to a person, but Kennedy seemed unbothered and perhaps even welcoming of the bites. This is a change from another time when he purportedly had a parasitic worm grow and die in his brain.
Kennedy said he was experiencing symptoms such as short-term memory loss and brain fog for two years before the cause was finally found. Doctors initially located a mass in his brain in 2012, as Kennedy was in divorce proceedings with his second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy.
At first, doctors chalked up his symptoms and the mass to a brain tumor. "I have cognitive problems, clearly. I have short-term memory loss, and I have longer-term memory loss that affects me," Kennedy said during a 2012 deposition, according to The New York Times.
However, after seeking a second opinion, another doctor told Kennedy that what they previously thought was a tumor was a cyst "caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died." Kennedy also said he suffered from mercury poisoning at the time, but remains convinced his problems were due to the parasitic infection.
"They said that this is almost certainly a parasite that got into your brain. It's a parasite that's very common in India, where I had done a lot of environmental work," Kennedy said, according to the UK Daily Mail.
Parasites aren't the only wildlife Kennedy has had a run-in with. Near the end of the 2024 presidential campaign, Kennedy admitted to leaving a bear cub carcass in Central Park in New York City in October 2014, where a dog walker discovered the bear's body.
Authorities had no idea how it got there at the time until Kennedy spilled the beans a decade later. He explained in a video posted to X on August 4, 2024, that he found the cub dead in a forest after it was hit by a car. He took it with him, planning to eat the meat and skin the bear, but his travel plans did not allow for this.
Instead, Kennedy claims his drunk friends urged him to bring the bear to Central Park and leave it as a prank. He made it look like a bicycle accident in the city caused the bear cub's death, and without any other explanation available, Kennedy got away with it for a decade as authorities were left scratching their heads.
Despite his admission, Kennedy didn't face any penalties as the statute of limitations ran out. Some have suggested that this story and other bizarre conduct should disqualify Kennedy from President Donald Trump's administration, but it doesn't seem to distract him from his important work.
Kennedy is definitely a person who marches to the beat of his own drummer, even if it means leaving a bear carcass in Central Park or letting parasites give him hickeys. His innovative thinking is a valuable asset for breaking the stagnant status quo in Washington, D.C., especially when it comes to issues of health and well-being.
Joy Behar, co-host of ABC's The View, said Thursday that the show would be on hiatus very soon, the Daily Caller reported. This comes amid continued attacks against President Donald Trump that were likely the undoing of another talk show.
The daytime talk show recently paused for a week for the July 4 holiday and typically breaks again around Aug. 2. However, Behar spilled the beans that it was a little sooner this time around.
“Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show until then,” Behar said. She seemed to catch herself, adding, “I’m allowed to say that, right?”
When Behar made her remark, it was business as usual as the ladies on the panel attacked the president. This time, it was about supposed links to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
“Before we go I wanted to tell people that the tide is turning,” Behar said after mentioning the hiatus. “The tide is turning and things are changing,” she added.
“I mean, the ultimate irony would be that Rupert Murdoch will take him down, Fox News, who created the monster will take him down,” Behar said, referring to a recent revelation by the Wall Street Journal which is owned by Murdoch’s News Corp conglomerate.
This week, the Journal claimed Trump’s name was in the Epstein files, though the president has denied any links with the late financier. “This is another fake news story, just like the previous story by The Wall Street Journal,” White House Communications Director Steve Cheung said.
This came after the Journal dropped another fake news story last week about a birthday letter Trump supposedly sent to Epstein that hinted at some racy activity. Trump sued the Wall Street Journal for that fabrication just after it was published.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg clarified the timeline of the hiatus later in the broadcast. “Okay, so here’s what’s going on. We will see you all tomorrow for another new show, and we’ll be back for our new season in September,” Goldberg said.
“But, of course, you can watch us the rest of the summer with our encore episodes, the best of the season.” There is no indication that it won’t return.
However, the network likely wanted to quell any rumors considering Stephen Colbert’s announcement that Late Night With Stephen Colbert will end next spring. The host has used his platform almost exclusively to bash Trump and amplify Democrats.
According to Fox News, the CBS late night talk show had leftist politicians, journalists, and hosts on 200 times during its 10 years on the air. That led to abysmal ratings and lack of interest that was ultimately its undoing, and the same is bound to happen for The View.
The ladies should enjoy their extended summer break and use it as a time to reflect on the future of their show. Audiences have grown tired of listening to their Trump hatred that is almost as tedious as the hosts themselves.
National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard suggested that former President Barack Obama may face a Department of Justice criminal probe for his part in the Russia collusion scam, Breitbart reported. Gabbard called Obama's conduct "treasonous," though it may be difficult to prosecute.
Information has come to light about the scandal that plagued President Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign. It appears the Obama administration ignored its own intelligence information that debunked claims that Russia meddled on Trump's behalf.
Instead, they doubled down on the assertion, likely in an attempt to undermine Trump even after he was elected. Now, Gabbard suggested she would hold the former president accountable at a White House briefing on Wednesday, just before the Justice Department did just that.
In earlier remarks, Gabbard called Obama's conduct "treasonous," though neither she nor Leavitt would commit to pursuing that charge. However, it's clear she's not about to let him or his administration off the hook on this matter.
Gabbard fielded a question from a Townhall reporter, Katie Pavlich, who asked if Obama's actions were criminal. "We have referred and will continue to refer all of these documents to the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate the criminal implications of this," Gabbard said.
"The evidence that we have found and that we have release directly point to President Obama leading the manufacturing of this intelligence assessment. There are multiple pieces of evidence and intelligence that confirm that fact," Gabbard later asserted.
However, even if Gabbard has the smoking gun linking Obama to this behavior, it may be difficult to prosecute him. Last June, Trump won his election interference case before the Supreme Court by arguing he had presidential immunity, The Hill reported.
The court decided 6-3 that a sitting president indeed has sweeping immunity while in office. "At least with respect to the President’s exercise of his core constitutional powers, this immunity must be absolute," Chief Justice John Roberts said in his majority opinion.
Even with the possibility that Obama received presidential immunity, the Justice Department announced it had formed a "strike force" on Wednesday evening to investigate. It will examine the matter and determine the legal action that may be taken from there, according to Fox News.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the collaboration with Gabbard to get this done. "The Department of Justice is proud to work with my friend Director Gabbard, and we are grateful for her partnership in delivering accountability for the American people," Bondi said.
"We will investigate these troubling disclosures fully and leave no stone unturned to deliver justice," she added. The strike force, made up of prosecutors and investigators, is in charge of pursuing "the worst offenders engaged in fraudulent activities, including, chiefly, health care fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, money laundering offenses, false statements offenses."
This will add to a previous FBI investigation launched earlier this month against former CIA Director John Brennan for his role in the Russia collusion hoax. Current CIA Director John Ratcliffe decided to do this after a declassification of a 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on the matter implicated Brennan.
This scandal bogged down Trump during his campaign and into his first term, and it appears the Obama administration knew it was fake all along. Even if Obama is immune, these people must be punished for attempting to undermine the will of the American people with a phony scandal.
New York Democratic Rep. Yvette Clark has been caught admitting that she is in favor of allowing more illegal immigrants into her district "just for redistricting purposes," Fox News reported. This revelation came from a clip that resurfaced on social media.
Republicans have often speculated that Democrats open the borders for their own cynical political purposes. Typically, they couch their arguments for unchecked illegal immigration in terms of humanitarian concerns or other altruistic goals.
However, Clark admitted that her fervor for illegal immigration came from the fact that it would benefit her. She said this during a 2021 briefing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee while claiming Brooklyn could "absorb a significant number of these migrants" into the Haitian community.
"When I hear my colleagues talk about, you know, the doors of the inn being closed, no room in the inn, I’m saying, you know, I need more people in my district, just for redistricting purposes, and those members could clearly fit here," Clarke said. This has caused a social media firestorm as the debate over illegal immigration rages on.
The footage of this stunning admission has resurfaced after journalist Kyle Becker posted it to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday. "House Rep. Yvette Clarke just said the quiet part out-loud. Democrats are as anti-American as it gets," Becker charged.

Becker went on to slam Clarke and others on her side of the debate. "It is madness that American citizens are footing the bill for foreigners to come here, use our social services, our education services, our infrastructure, and then retire at our expense," Becker said in a comment.
"All because the anti-American Democratic Party wants a few extra seats in Congress. Enough!" Becker added. Others chimed in, including the "End Wokeness" account that said, "This is how you hijack democracy."
Conservative commentator David Freeman added to that sentiment. "Dems have been saying the quiet part out loud for years. This is why the imported MILLIONS. They want to have a one party country," Freeman wrote.
The problem with Democrats and illegal immigration has come to a head recently as they've dropped any pretense of moderating their policies. In 2021, Democrats in deep-blue New York City attempted to allow illegal immigrants to vote in elections.
The New York City Council passed a law that would have permitted almost one million noncitizens to cast ballots in the city council and mayoral elections. The New York Court of Appeals blocked the law, but that doesn't mean Democrats are ready to back off.
With this reality in mind, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act that would require voters wishing to cast ballots in federal elections to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering. It would require require states purge voter rolls of noncitizens.
The bill would also make it a criminal offense to register a person to vote in a federal election without receiving proof of U.S. citizenship. The bill has passed in the House of Representatives but not in the Senate.
It's unconscionable that a politician would be as self-serving as Clarke and allow illegal immigration to destroy the country. Unfortunately, the problem goes well beyond Clarke and infects much of the Democratic Party, which is why the nation is in this predicament.
Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has tragically passed away. The 54-year-0ld actor reportedly drowned while vacationing in Costa Rica with his family.
The drowning occurred while Warner was swimming in the ocean on Sunday off the coast of Costa Rica. His body was recovered from the ocean later that day, and police say he died of asphyxia, which is a lack of oxygen, presumably from drowning.
The actor left behind a wife and a daughter. Warner was just 14 when he got his big acting break as the affable teenage son of Cliff Huxtable, played by the disgraced Bill Cosby.
The family-friendly hit sitcom ran from 1984 to 1992 and remains a beloved part of American culture. Unfortunately, the show's legacy has been tarnished because of accusations against Cosby that surfaced more than a decade after the final episode aired.
For television viewers in the 1980s, Warner's Theo was relatable as a wholesome teenager in a loving family. He felt like he could be their friend, brother, or son, especially during the iconic sitcom moment when he donned the shirt that will live forever in television history.
After The Cosby Show wrapped for good, Warner later starred as Comedian Eddie Griffin in the sitcom Malcolm and Eddie, which aired from 1996 to 2000. Most recently, Warner appeared in Fox's drama The Resident, which aired from 2018 to 2023.
He was remembered by his co-star Morris Chestnut in a post on Facebook on Monday. "Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Working alongside him on The Resident was an honor," Chestnut continued.
"He brought so much depth, warmth, and wisdom to every scene and every conversation. One of the nicest in the business. Rest easy, brother. Your legacy lives on," he added, echoing the sentiments of many others in the business.
Warner remains beloved despite the shadow cast by the Cosby scandal. According to Fox News, Cosby was convicted of sexual assault in 2018, though it was later overturned in 2021. However, five more alleged victims have come forward since then.
Nevertheless, Cosby's representative, Andrew Wyatt, said that the 88-year-old was heartbroken upon hearing the news of his former co-star's passing. "He had just done a concert in Minnesota and called Mr. Cosby and talked about it," Wyatt said.
"They spoke all the time. He said, ‘Malcolm was changing humanity,’" Wyatt added. He likened Cosby's hearing about Maclom's death to the moment when the comedian found out his 27-year-old son, Ennis William Cosby, was murdered during an attempted robbery in 1997.
Warner's character was loosely based on Ennis, which made the actor's death particularly painful for Cosby. "It felt the same way -- extremely devastating," Wyatt said.
The death of an actor like Warner stirs feelings of sadness, not only for the passing of a wonderful person but also for the end of an era. There will never be another sitcom experience like The Cosby Show, where generations could watch and laugh together, and Warner's death is a stark reminder of that fact.
At a dinner with lawmakers on Friday, President Donald Trump said that 10 more hostages will be released from Gaza soon as part of a truce deal being worked on by both sides and American Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
The truce would include a 60-day ceasefire, the hostage release along with 18 bodies in exchange for some Hamas detainees.
"We got most of the hostages back. We're going to have another 10 coming very shortly, and we hope to have that finished quickly," Trump said.
Discussions have been ongoing since July 6 at Doha, but no firm agreement has been struck.
Gaza's health ministry claimed that more than 58,600 Palestinians have been killed since Hamas terrorists operating from Gaza attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
Around 1,200 Israelis were killed in the initial unprovoked, surprise attack, and another 250 hostages were taken by Hamas.
Since then, Israel has been attacking Gaza to get to the terrorists, vowing to wipe out Hamas so it can never attack Israel in that way again.
It is unknown whether Gaza's health ministry is inflating the casualty numbers to gain sympathy.
In any case, there is documented evidence of Hamas using the people of Gaza as human shields and encouraging civilian bombings to make Israel look guilty of targeting civilians.
Israel has provided literal tons of aid for Gaza, but much of it has been taken by Hamas before it can get to the people who need it.
U.S. intervention has likely prolonged the war, at least in its encouragement toward ceasefires and negotiations.
Every ceasefire only gives Hamas breathing space to regroup and continue its attacks.
Hamas's efforts have been most successful with the far-left in the U.S., which has protested against Israel on college campuses and other locations.
There's a sucker born every minute, it seems. TikTok has also provided a lot of propaganda trying to demonize Israel and lionize Hamas.
Few things are more unnerving than the sudden, unexplained onset of a medical condition that has a negative impact on everyday life.
Unfortunately, that is the situation with which Bristol Palin, daughter of former GOP vice-presidential contender Sarah Palin, has been dealing since earlier this year, battling a mysterious case of facial paralysis that she says came “completely out of the blue,” as Fox News reports.
It was back in January that Palin informed fans and followers of her predicament via an Instagram story.
She explained that she woke up one morning and noticed “a little weird sensation in my face” and within a matter of hours “the entire left side of my face was numb and just paralyzed.”
Palin soon sought assistance from a doctor, and after undergoing a battery of tests, was informed that “nothing came back in all the results” and was given a prescription for steroids and other medications.
The former reality television personality updated fans again in February, according to People, indicating that little about her very visible condition had changed.
“If I just keep my mouth shut, it’s not as noticeable. We are day 35, officially 5 weeks, since the left side of my face went paralyzed. I still have no muscle movement on the left side. I don’t really feel much,” she lamented.
Palin continued, “I’ve done everything imaginable to resolve this. I’m not sure what else I should do. But I’ve spent the last 35 days doing something every single day to try and fix this and nothing has helped so far. So, I’m not sure what the future holds.”
The daughter of the former Alaska governor told fans that her condition appeared “completely out of the blue – no warning, wasn’t sick didn’t get the v@x, no recent Botox,” making the situation all the more baffling.
In her most recent Instagram update on the matter, Palin said she has been handling the affliction as best she can, believes that her face is currently around “70% back to normal,” and while there is a possibility that the condition is permanent, she does not expect that will be the case.
When she first sought medical attention for her facial paralysis, doctors suggested the possibility that Bell’s palsy, a condition that can arise due to stress or insufficient sleep, may have been to blame.
As the Mayo Clinic explains, the condition is known for causing “sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face.”
Mayo goes on to note that the precise cause of Bell’s Palsy is not fully understood, but that the symptoms it produces tend to be short-term in nature.
At present, Palin says she is “slowly improving” and that her doctor believes she may have “another 3 months” to go before things “hopefully” return to normal, an outcome for which her fans and followers are surely praying.
Steve Bannon says Rupert Murdoch's fingerprints are all over the Wall Street Journal's decision to publish a birthday greeting President Donald Trump supposedly wrote to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, the UK Daily Mail reported. Bannon believes the Murdochs are out to get the president and will stop at nothing.
"Last night, we saw it in all its ugliness. The Murdochs hate Trump," the media mogul and former White House adviser said during his War Room podcast Friday.
Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against Murdoch, the Wall Street Journal, and other reporters who broke the story. Bannon said this will be Trump's opportunity to strike at the media mogul who owns the paper through his News Corporation conglomerate.

On Thursday, the Journal printed the contents of a "bawdy" birthday card Trump allegedly sent to Epstein for his 5oth birthday. "Happy Birthday - and may every day be another wonderful secret," the typed message said before Trump's purported handwritten signature.
Trump has vehemently denied writing the letter to the disgraced financier and initiated the lawsuit to prove it. Bannon thinks this is an orchestrated attack on Trump after years of back-and-forth attacks.
"The Murdochs want to take down Trump. And this is why on this Epstein and everything, including the rest of the going at the deep state, we have to be on offense all the time," Bannon said.
Bannon believes that Murdoch, who also owns The New York Post and Fox News, is the one who mobilized against Trump. "They used the New York Post as more of a populist entity. And of course, Fox News is for RINOs," Bannon continued.
"But the Wall Street Journal is the neoliberal neocon sharp end of the stick that they come after Trump. And last night they tried to actually destroy him with what looks like a phony and fake letter," he added.
Bannon believes the Murdochs put out the "kill shot on President Trump because he had the stones to stand up to" them. He believes Trump is now well-positioned to turn that around on them, thanks to the lawsuit.
'In fact, we made the recommendations that are the best for President Trump in this movement, which is President Trump is best when it’s attack, attack, attack. He can’t wait to get Rupert Murdoch on the stand," Bannon said.
"You know, Murdoch swore us, you know, squirmed out of having to do the Dominion thing because of the emails that Rupert Murdoch said were going to make Trump a non-person, a non-person, but he ain’t going to get out of this one," Bannon added. The Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit came from claims Trump made that the 2020 election was rigged, which Murdoch's networks repeated.
Trump's legal team has already filed the case that could corner Murdoch now. "This historic legal action is being brought against the so-called authors of this defamation, the now fully disgraced WSJ, as well as its corporate owners and affiliates, with Rupert Murdoch and Robert Thomson (whatever his role is!) at the top of the list," Trump wrote Friday on his Truth Social.
This latest attempt to get Trump is clearly problematic, but the lawsuit will address that. Whether it's Murdoch or one of Trump's other enemies, it's clear that they will pull whatever dirty trick they think will work as Trump outsmarts them all.
