Supreme Court Rejects Challenge to Public School

The Supreme Court has just dealt a DEVASTATING blow to religious liberty in this country.

On Tuesday, The Supreme Court rebuffed an appeal from a high school student who argued that homework forcing students to recognize “there is no god but Allah” is a violation of the First Amendment.

Caleigh Wood, a student at La Plata High School in Charles County, Maryland, was taking a world history course during the 2014-2015 school year when she was given homework forcing her to learn about Islam against her will.

According to the Washington Examiner:

“As part of the class, the then-junior was required to complete coursework on ‘The Muslim World,’ in which she learned about Islam. Wood took issue with two parts of the class: a PowerPoint presentation that said most Muslims’ faith ‘is stronger than the average Christian’ and a fill-in-the-blank worksheet in which she had to write, ‘There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah,’ which she said was in violation of her Christian faith.”

However, in spite of Wood’s religious views, she was NOT allowed to opt out of the Islam-related class. Instead, she was forced to simply refuse to do some of her assignments, which left her with a poor grade.

Wood even launched a lawsuit against the principal of the school in 2016 – and lost.

According to the Examiner:

“Wood sued Principal Evelyn Arnold and Vice Principal Shannon Morris in January 2016, alleging her First Amendment rights had been violated.”

The Supreme Court’s refusal to hear Wood’s plea will mean that she will have to live with a lower than usual grade due to the unfairness of America’s education system and the justice system.

This entire situation is outrageous, to say the least.

The fact that these people forced Wood to go against her Christian beliefs or get a bad grade is everything that’s wrong with this country.
