Country music superstar Dolly Parton is set to be honored for both her contributions to and creative achievements within the music industry, as well as for how she has used her stardom to support various charitable causes.
A number of musical stars had already been lined up to perform at the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year event in Parton’s honor, and now several more top stars of the music world have signed on to take part in the event as well.
The Look to the Stars website reported that the most recent additions to the event honoring Parton included country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, as well as pop music stars Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry.
Brooks, Cyrus, Perry and Yearwood will join a lineup that was already quite star-studded in its own right.
Some of the more well-known stars at the event include Vince Gill, Don Henley, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson and Pink. Other stars performing will be Kacey Musgraves, Mark Ronson, Mavis Staples and Chris Stapleton.
Grammy Award nominees Leon Bridges, Lauren Daigle and Linda Perry will be performing, as will best-selling singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes.
Award for music and charity
The event to honor Parton is scheduled to be held Feb. 8 in Los Angeles. Parton is actually the first Nashville-based artist to be honored with the MusiCares Person of the Year award.
The MusiCares Foundation is the charitable arm of the Grammy Award-granting Recording Academy, and provides necessary resources and services to music artists in need, such as those dealing with various financial, medical or personal emergencies.
“I am so excited and humbled to be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year,” Parton said of the award. “It’s even more special knowing the gala benefits music people in need. I can’t wait to hear all of the great artists singing my music.”
As noted, Parton will be honored as much for her incredible achievements in the music world as she will be for the support she has given over the long-term to a number of charitable causes, especially her founding of the Imagination Library in 1995 that helps combat childhood illiteracy.
Dolly Parton has long been a superstar in the music world, and it is only right that she be honored for her many contributions to the industry.
However, this particular award takes into account an artist’s charitable nature as much as their musical achievements, making the honor for Parton that much more special.
