As progressive Democrats continue to push their dangerous “defund the police” movement, violent crimes in America’s largest cities continue to spike, including a recent spate of shootings that broke out on the streets of the nation’s capital.
According to the Washington Examiner, within a 12-hour period over the weekend, two people lost their lives and eight were wounded in multiple shooting incidents in Washington, D.C.
The district’s gun laws, which are some of the strictest in the nation, apparently failed to prevent the shooters from committing such violent crimes.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) revealed on Sunday that two Americans lost their lives as a result of the shooting incidents. The deceased included James Beckham, 69, and Kendall Brown, 20, both of whom were from Maryland, the Examiner reported.
In Beckham’s case, police discovered his body in a car on Saturday night. Unfortunately, police haven’t been able to make any arrests, but hope that a $25,000 reward will drum up leads that could eventually lead to an arrest.
Brown was discovered by police in a home, where she was pronounced dead early Sunday morning. Not long after the tragic discovery, police arrested Amard Jefferson, 22, and charged him with armed, second-degree murder.
Within the same short window of time, MPD officers were called to a string of additional shooting incidents in the city. A total of eight people were transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds.
Adding to the madness are reports that after the D.C. shootings, in three separate incidents, two other people were stabbed by the end of the weekend.
It’s getting bad out there
Run by Mayor Muriel Bowser (D), Washington is seemingly falling victim to a nationwide spike in violent crimes. The Examiner noted that as of early August, the city has experienced a 5% increase in homicides and a staggering 24% increase in vehicle theft.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the Windy City, led by Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D), experienced another shockingly violent weekend of crime, with reports of 73 people shot and 11 dead in the span of barely three days.
Half of those shootings occurred in a 10-hour time span, and in the process, one Chicago police officer died in the line of duty. According to the Chicago Tribune, another officer who was shot is currently fighting to stay alive in a local hospital.
While Democrats love to promote the idea of reducing gun violence through the use of gun control laws, the media doesn’t seem to want to admit the fact that the Democrat-run cities with the strictest gun laws in the nation are the cities experiencing some of the highest rates of violence.
