There is no denying that most of President Donald Trump’s critics want him out of the White House — and while some have backed subversive efforts to remove him, others have attempted to cajole him into resigning from office.
Infamous shock jock Howard Stern recently adopted the latter tack on his show on Tuesday in which he said it would be “extremely patriotic” of Trump to resign from the Oval Office, the Washington Examiner reported.
Stern calls on Trump to resign
It was on Stern’s SiriusXM radio show on Tuesday that he disparaged and revealed his absolute “hate” for the Americans who voted for President Trump in 2016, even as he claimed at the same time that he held no hate in his heart for Donald Trump himself.
Indeed, the New York Daily News noted that Stern and Trump used to be friends, before the president entered the world of politics, with Trump appearing as a guest on Stern’s program many times in years past. In fact, the two even attended each other’s weddings.
But all of that changed after Trump ran for office, and Stern has become a staunch critic of the president who has now tried appealing to the president’s patriotism in a bid to see him step down from office.
“I do think it would be extremely patriotic of Donald to say ‘I’m in over my head and I don’t want to be president anymore,'” Stern said on his show. “It’d be so patriotic that I’d hug him and then I’d go back to Mar-a-Lago and have a meal with him and feel good about him because it would be such an easy thing to do.”
Expresses contempt for supporters
Of course, that is exceedingly unlikely to happen, as Stern himself admitted, something which led him to focus his impotent rage on the American voters who placed Trump in office. He even went so far as to suggest that Trump, due to his celebrity nature, actually shares his hatred of those who voted for him in the past election.
“I don’t hate Donald,” Stern told his audience. “I hate you for voting for him, for not having intelligence.
“One thing Donald loves is celebrities, he loves the famous,” the host explained. “He loves it. He loves to be in the mix.
“The oddity in all of this is the people Trump despises most, love him the most,” Stern continued. “The people who are voting for Trump for the most part … he wouldn’t even let them in a f—ing hotel. He’d be disgusted by them. Go to Mar-a-Lago, see if there’s any people who look like you. I’m talking to you in the audience.”
Tactic sure to backfire
Howard Stern can claim all he wants that he doesn’t “hate” Trump, but he doesn’t sound very credible given his recent statements disparaging him and his supporters.
As noted, it is highly unlikely that Trump will resign from office, particularly in an election year, and Stern’s contempt from Trump voters will almost certainly backfire by steeling their resolve to continue supporting the president all the way to November.
