Rep. Elise Stefanik: Media coverage of Soleimani’s death ‘an absolute embarrassment’

In the aftermath of the targeted drone strike that killed top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani, critics of President Donald Trump seemed to take Iran’s side against America; elected Democrats and liberal pundits in the media issued remarks that glossed over Soleimani’s brutality and painted him instead as a “revered” figure across the Middle East.

That glowing portrayal of Soleimani — who was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans during the Iraq War — was simply too much to bear for Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who decried the media coverage as an “absolute embarrassment,” according to Breitbart.

An “absolute embarrassment”

The congresswoman’s remarks came during an appearance Saturday morning on Fox & Friends, where she was asked for her thoughts on the liberal media’s reaction to the Trump-ordered strike that killed Soleimani.

Various clips of media talking heads showed them issuing gushing praise for Soleimani as “brilliant,” a “military genius,” and “iconic” leader who was beloved by the people. Also highlighted was a headline from The Washington Post that described the murderously ruthless general as Iran’s “most revered military leader.”

In response to all of the clips, Stefanik said, “This is an absolute embarrassment.”

He had it coming

“It is clear Soleimani is one of the bloodiest terrorists,” the congresswoman said. “He has exported global terrorism, and he has the blood of American troops on his hands. He has killed hundreds of American troops.”

She went on: “I represent Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division — the most deployed unit in the Army since 9/11. Those troops have risked their lives and were targeted by Soleimani and his Quds forces.”

Stefanik added that Soleimani “is a terrorist who exported through proxies — whether it is Hezbollah, Hamas — and has sowed disorder in the Middle East in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq. He should not be revered, and The Washington Post and should apologize and retract that statement,” Stefanik added.

Stefanik lets it rip

Later in the interview, Stefanik issued high praise for President Trump and for the intelligence operatives who made the operation a success, saying: “This was about deterring Iranian aggression in the Middle East, and most importantly it’s about protecting U.S. troops, which our commander in chief always should do.”

Separately, she also pushed back on media attacks against herself and Republican women more broadly and also slammed Democrats who seemed incapable of admitting that Soleimani was a bad guy who needed to be taken out but have been obsessed with criticizing Trump and working incessantly on his impeachment.

Congresswoman Stefanik was 100% correct to call out the media and Democrats for the “absolute embarrassment” that was their over-the-top reaction to an indisputably and objectively good thing done by President Trump in taking out a brutal and murderous thug of an Iranian terror leader.

Hopefully, Stefanik’s message will take root and resoundingly shame those who deserve it most.
