‘Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory’ star dies at 62
Fans of the classic Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory movie are in mourning today.
One of the more memorable child actors in the movie, Denise Nickerson, passed away at the age of 62.
At age 62, Nickerson really had no reason to believe she would be taken from us so early in life. However, earlier this week, she was diagnosed with pneumonia.
After suffering a seizure, she was rushed to the hospital, where she remained until her death.
Nickerson had been put on life support, which her family decided to take her off on Wednesday.
Prior to her passing, a parade of family and friends stopped by to visit Nickerson to say their goodbyes.
Nickerson’s career was launched in 1965 portraying Tina in an episode of Flipper. Several years later, she won the recurring role of Amy Jennings/Nora Collins/Amy Collins in Dark Shadows.
After appearing in a TV movie called The Neon Ceiling, Nickerson hit the bigtime portraying Violet Beauregarde in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.
From there, she would go on to star in several more TV series’ and TV movies.
She appeared in 130 episodes of The Electric Factory and even appeared in an episode of The Brady Bunch.
Her last appearance as an actress would be in the 1978 movie, Zero to Sixty.
Rest in peace, Ms. Nickerson.
