Justice Sotomayor inspired Ocasio-Cortez’s look at her swearing-in

One of D.C.’s newest — and most controversial — congresswomen started off her career with a big splash.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) showed up at her swearing-in ceremony wearing large hoop earrings and red lipstick, apparently inspired by Obama-appointed Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Getting Noticed

Ocasio-Cortez has hit the ground running in Washington.

Few people doubted she would do anything less after she scored a major upset in New York.

Not one to stay with the program, she decided to wear her signature jewelry and lipstick to her swearing-in ceremony.

Shortly after, she gave notice that she was going to start swimming upstream, against her own party if necessary.

Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the new breed of progressive that wants old leadership out and new leadership in.

Two of the big items on her agenda are taxing the hell out of anyone she deems to be making too much money and eliminating fossil fuels in favor of all green energy sources.

Against the Grain

Before Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was sworn in as speaker, she announced the forming of a new committee dedicated to furthering green energy in the United States.

Ocasio-Cortez was quick to call the committee a complete joke.

Describing herself as “very idealistic and optimistic,” Ocasio-Cortez clearly has plans of her own and is not looking to follow the party line.

Her recent suggestion of a 70 percent tax requirement on the top earners in this country has also raised a few eyebrows.

The 29-year-old socialist is apparently trying to become the modern-day Robin Hood in Congress.

If Ocasio-Cortez is the new breed of progressive, conservatives are going to be in for the fight of their lives.
