Six migrants killed, more injured in high-speed crash in Texas

Listening to 2020 presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), you hear a lot about the “xenophobic” Trump administration’s wall, and not much about the dangers of unchecked illegal immigration. But Harris is wrong, and here’s yet another tragic example.

Six illegal immigrants were killed and others were injured in a devastating high-speed collision that occurred after they attempted to evade police in a chase.

What happened?

The incident took place in southern Texas last Tuesday evening, when, around 10 p.m., officers attempted to pull over a speeding SUV. The driver refused to stop.

A chase began during which the driver of the SUV managed to evade the police.

The next time that authorities made contact with the occupants of the vehicle was the following morning when a woman called into the Nueces County Sheriff’s department to report an injured man at her door.

Police arrived at the woman’s house and conducted a search of the area. There they found two more injured men who said that they had been in a car crash.

Failed evasion

Police then discovered the wreck in which the SUV that they had chased the previous evening crashed into a drainage ditch while traveling 50 miles per hour.

In total, six of the vehicle’s occupants died and five were critically injured. Police also said that three more individuals are believed to have been involved.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the occupants had illegally entered the United States and were nationals of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico. Two of the injured persons are currently being detained by Border Patrol.

All too common tragedy

Afterward, Nueces County Sheriff J.C. Hooper briefed the public on the incident. “It has a classic appearance of human trafficking,” he said noting that such incidents are common along Southern Texas’ Highway 77 due to its proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“We are a pipeline,” he added. “We are on a corridor to Houston, Texas, and these first responders deal with it every day.”

I wonder what Kamala Harris would have to say about this incident.
