You probably remember him from the hit television show “Shark Tank.” He’s a controversial businessman who’s made a living building businesses and taking long-shots. He even tried to run for prime minister of Canada at one point.
His name is Kevin O’Leary – and he’s one of America’s most famous investors from Canada. And he has just been involved in a deadly speedboat accident.
According to a special report by Fox News:
“At least one person was killed over the weekend and two others were injured in Ontario, Canada when two boats collided — one of which had businessman and ‘Shark Tank’ star Kevin O’Leary on board.”
The Toronto Sun reports that the person who died was a 64-year-old American man who was aboard a 13-person water vessel. And that the other victim was a 48-year-old Canadian woman who sustained life-threatening injuries.
The third victim of the accident was a woman on O’Leary’s boat, who has since been rushed to the hospital after the incident.
O’Leary has chosen to issue a public statement regarding the disaster, telling TMZ what happened.
According to O’Leary, the boat that hit his had no lights on in the middle of the night and chose to flee after the tragic collision:
“Late Saturday night I was a passenger in a boat that had a tragic collision with another craft that had no navigation lights on and then fled the scene of the accident…”
A friend of O’Leary’s has reportedly told TMZ that O’Leary’s wife was the one driving the boat at the time of the accident, and that police gave her a DUI test – which she passed with flying colors.
As of right now, O’Leary says that he is “fully cooperating with authorities” and refuses to give anymore information out of respect for the victims involved in the heartbreaking situation.
More details should come later. This is far from over.
