Senate GOP leaders call on DOJ, intel community to release info related to Biden business ties

More than two months after his father was inaugurated as president, Hunter Biden is still the subject of many questions from congressional Republicans who want to get to the bottom of his international business dealings.

According to Breitbart, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) have now sent a letter to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and intelligence community officials in search of documents related to Biden’s possible ties to China’s communist regime.

“Financial transactions and connections”

Grassley is the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Johnson leads the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Their letter on the issue was addressed to national intelligence director Avril Haines and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“As you know, we have been reviewing financial transactions and connections between and among members of the Biden family and foreign nationals connected to the communist Chinese government, including its military and intelligence services,” the letter begins.

The senators go on to detail some of those reported ties, including Hunter Biden’s “close and personal relationship with Ye Jianming, who reportedly had links to the communist regime’s Liberation Army.”

According to Grassley and Johnson, they possess evidence including text messages showing that Biden spoke to Ye on a “regular basis” and at one point had a “standing once a week call.”

“Potential counterintelligence threat”

Additionally, the senators highlighted two other reported business associates of Hunter Biden: Gongwen Dong and Chi Ping “Patrick” Ho. Both men were said to also be associated with Ye.

The letter included several reasons Grassley and Johnson found the associations so troubling, including the fact that Ho was convicted of international bribery and money laundering for work allegedly completed for Ye. Ho was legally defended by Hunter Biden.

As the senators noted, Ho was the subject of “at least one Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant,” which served as an indication of “his potential counterintelligence threat to the United States.”

In regard to Gongwen Dong, the senators claim that an email from Hunter Biden indicated that his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, and uncle, James Biden, were “office mates” with the Chinese national, which they said “demands additional explanation.”

As of the latest updates, neither Haines nor Garland have publicly responded. Nevertheless, Grassley and Johnson made their objective clear, insisting that it is “imperative that Congress better understand the relationship Ye Jianming, Gongwen Dong, and Patrick Ho had between and among themselves, with the communist Chinese government, CEFC China Energy, and their activities in the United States, includes those relating to the Biden family,” according to the Washington Examiner.
