Sen. Warren dodges important abortion question

Whether Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) ever had any credibility is arguable. But, it’s now clear that any credibility that she did have is completely gone.

Breitbart News reports that Warren is now simply dodging controversial subjects during interviews.

Can you guess why? Could it be that her extremist points of view are a liability to her popularity and thus her political future? You be the judge.

Warren’s latest nonanswer

Most recently, Warren was caught dodging a question about the extent to which abortion should or should not be legal. It happened on Friday during an appearance that Warren made on CBS News’s Mornings.

There, co-host Nate Burleson asked Warren this: “[Y]ou believe in a woman’s choice no matter how difficult the decision, but there is a question — should there be any limits on abortions?”

Warren did anything but answer the question. She replied:

You know, I’m going to put it this way — I think that the woman who is most affected should be at the heart of this. I think that she should be able to call on her partner, her mother, priest, her rabbi. She should be able to bring the people she needs. But in a pregnancy, I don’t believe that it is the state that should intervene with its heavy hand and make the decision.

From this response, one can get the idea that Warren does not believe that laws ought to place limits on abortions. But, one can’t really say for sure. Rather than answering the question directly, she kept her response as vague as possible, which suggests that she is hiding something politically unpopular.

Background

The abortion debate has really heated up recently with the leak of a U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion. The opinion is from the case in which the justices are considering the legality of Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban.

In the draft opinion, which was written by Justice Samuel Alito, the court overturns the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade. The draft’s authenticity has been confirmed by Chief Justice John Roberts.

While some have responded with outrage at the fact that the leak occurred, the left responded with so-called pro-abortion protests. These “protests” targeted Catholic churches, the homes of Supreme Court justices, and they even included a Molotov cocktail attack on an anti-abortion group.

It is a clear attempt by the left to intimidate the justices into changing their minds and upholding Roe. But, it would appear that the justices aren’t budging.

Fox News reports that “the five-vote majority needed in the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey remains intact.”
