Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden and the party he represents have been very open about their plans to infringe on the American people’s constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms. And going into Election Day, President Donald Trump doesn’t want voters to forget about that.
According to Breitbart, Trump warned at a campaign rally in Arizona on Wednesday that if Biden were to be elected president, the Democrat would — for all intents and purposes — move quickly to “terminate” Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
“Think about your Second Amendment”
The stark warning from President Trump to the crowd in Goodyear, Arizona, followed a similar missive from Republican Arizona Sen. Martha McSally, who is locked in a tough battle for re-election against former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly, an outspoken proponent of gun control.
According to Breitbart, McSally warned at the rally that her Democratic challenger would be all-in for the sort of confiscatory gun control pushed by the likes of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and others on the “radical left” — proposals that are anathema to the largely gun-friendly culture that is prevalent in states like Arizona.
Trump, for his part, later reiterated that message, cautioning the crowd in Arizona that those on the left want nothing more than to “terminate your Second Amendment.”
“You can think of a lot of things, but think about your Second Amendment,” he urged the crowd, as Breitbart reported.
Biden’s big plans
To be sure, some on both the left and the right would dismiss those warnings from Trump and McSally as overblown hyperbole — but, unfortunately, neither were really exaggerating, as evidenced by the Biden campaign’s own website, which has an entire page dedicated to the former vice president’s plans for strict new gun control measures.
Biden’s top proposal is a repeal of the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce Act, a move that would open up firearms manufacturers to frivolous lawsuits and render them liable for the criminal misuse of their products — a measure that would both bankrupt and cripple the firearms industry.
Biden says he would also ban the importation, manufacture, and sale of new “assault weapons,” as well as so-called “high-capacity” magazines, which to him means magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
Biden would also require all Americans who already own such weapons and magazines to either sell them to the government or register them and pay a $200 fee per item.
This is all in addition to imposing “universal” background checks, which would prohibit private gun sales between friends and family members; banning certain recipients of Social Security from possessing firearms; closing other so-called “loopholes” in the background check system; and banning the online sale of guns, gun parts, and ammunition entirely.
Sadly, these are just a few of the many gun control proposals put forward by Biden and championed by the Democratic Party. With this in mind, it seems President Trump is not exaggerating when he says that when all is said and done, our cherished Second Amendment would indeed be a relic of the past if Biden were to become president.
