‘Saved By the Bell’ star Dustin Diamond dead at 44

Actor Dustin Diamond, best known for his role as Samuel “Screech” Powers in “Saved by the Bell,” has died at the age of 44 after a brief battle with cancer.

According to TMZ, Diamond’s passing on Monday morning was confirmed by one of his representatives.

Way too young

It was just a few weeks ago, in early January, that Diamond was diagnosed with stage four small cell carcinoma. This is a type of cancer, according to WebMDin which the “cells of the lungs start growing rapidly and in an uncontrolled manner.”

Diamond was initially hospitalized, according to TMZ, because he was experiencing widespread pain. Tests were done, and that is when the diagnosis was made.

After the diagnosis, Diamond went through one round of chemotherapy. But, according to a representative that spoke with Fox News, things recently went downhill in a hurry.

“He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago,” said Roger Paul. “In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution.”

“Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain,” Paul added. “For that, we are grateful.”

Diamond’s girlfriend is reported to have been at his side when he passed.
