While unsuccessful in his push to impeach and remove President Donald Trump, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) continues to express his disgust for the current administration and top officials including Attorney General William Barr.articular,
As the Washington Examiner reported, Schiff has openly expressed concern regarding Barr’s possible use or misuse of Justice Department resources in an effort to damage the Democratic Party.
“The worst is yet to come”
In particular, Schiff appears to be upset by the fact that the House Intelligence Committee, which he chairs, has not been briefed on the day-to-day details of an ongoing probe led by U.S. Attorney John Durham.
That investigation is reportedly focused on uncovering possible wrongdoing by the Obama administration in an alleged effort to spy on the Trump campaign beginning in 2016.
Schiff made his latest remarks during an appearance on the Talking Feds podcast, describing his worries that Barr and Durham would engage in “more serious abuse” of federal law-enforcement power in the weeks and months leading up to November’s election.
“One of the concerns I have with Bill Barr is that the worst is yet to come,” he said, as the Examiner reported. “I mean, he’s got a terrible, destructive track record as it is, and it may get worse in the coming days. But what we have seen largely is Barr’s intervention to protect the president.”
Schiff seemed especially concerned that Barr was no longer simply playing defense for the president but had instead been preparing to go on the offensive against critics of the current administration.
“Preparing the use of the sword”
“What we have not yet had full visibility on is not Barr’s use of the shield to protect corruption writ large of his boss, Donald Trump, but the sword,” Schiff said, according to the Examiner.
He went on to speculate that Barr “may be using the power of the Justice Department through Durham or others to go after the president’s enemies.”
While Schiff did not mention himself, it would appear he would likely be included in any theoretical list of Trump’s political foes.
“And so I continue to be concerned with the president, who is tweeting about how Obama and Biden should go to prison, that Bill Barr may be preparing the use of the sword in a politicized and dangerous and desperate way,” he concluded.
Of course, many of Trump’s supporters would likely argue that it was Schiff who politicized his position in a failed effort to remove Trump from the White House.
