Sarah Sanders calls out media, Democrats for ignoring crisis at southern border

President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in south Florida reportedly faced a security breach recently when a Chinese national suspected of being a spy managed to make it past the first layer of security to gain illicit entrance to the resort, prior to being caught and arrested shortly thereafter.

The Mar-a-Lago security breach has prompted quite a few headlines and discussions among the media over the last several days, prompting White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders to call out the media for how they’ve ignored the ongoing and repeated security breaches at our nation’s southern border.

“A very dangerous thing”

Speaking to reporters in front of the White House Thursday morning, Sanders said that “it’s good to know [members of the media] care about the president’s safety.”

“We’re thankful for that,” she said. “But they spent so much time talking about one person at Mar-a-Lago and the security there, [and] they’ve ignored over the last two years the thousands of illegal immigrants that are rushing our borders.”

She went on to call on the media to care about the “safety and security of all Americans.”

“If they really care about the safety and security of people, they should start talking about the safety and security of all Americans, including the ones that have been threatened and the people that are coming across that border,” she said. “It’s a very dangerous thing.”

Take a look:

“Absolutely no choice”

Sanders also addressed the situation at the border a day prior while speaking with reporters outside the White House about whether President Trump will go through with his threat to close the southern border.

“Look, the Democrats are leaving us absolutely no choice at this point,” she said. “We’ve already had to move roughly 750 personnel from ports of entry at this point, and it looks like we’re going to have to move more, which will force those lines to go longer, to cross the border, and eventually it may be that it’s the best decision that we close the border.”

Sanders went on to point out that even Jeh Johnson, secretary of Homeland Security during the Barack Obama administration, has said the border situation has reached a crisis level.

“People are starting to understand exactly what the president has said was going to happen all along,” the press secretary said. “And it’s unfortunate because this could have been something we fixed, if Democrats had been willing to work with us. Hopefully, they see the impact that it’s having on our border and on our Border Patrol agents, and they’ll be willing to step up and do their jobs and help the president.”

See for yourself:

Sarah Sanders is absolutely right to call out both the media and Democrats for ignoring the ongoing crisis at the border.

Until both of those groups “step up and do their jobs,” Sanders needs to keep putting the issue right in their faces.
