Fearing that the Robert Mueller-led special counsel investigation won’t turn up the evidence they need to impeach President Donald Trump, House Democrats opened their own wide-ranging investigation against the president, his associates, and even his family members this week.
This was too much for White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, who has finally had enough of the Democrat “resistance.” She responded with a blistering statement attacking the Democrats’ “disgraceful and abusive investigation,” calling it a “fishing expedition” to find something, anything on Trump now that the Russia narrative is falling apart.
The Nadler investigation
In a press release on Monday, Democratic House Judiciary Committee chair Jerry Nadler announced that he would lead a new investigation into “alleged obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power by President Trump, his associates, and members of his Administration.”
Coinciding with the launch of the probe were letters demanding documents and information from some 81 separate individuals, organizations and government agencies associated with the president or his private business empire.
“We will act quickly to gather this information, assess the evidence, and follow the facts where they lead with full transparency with the American people,” the chairman added. “This is a critical time for our nation, and we have a responsibility to investigate these matters and hold hearings for the public to have all the facts. That is exactly what we intend to do.”
“Fishing” for a crime
In response to Nadler’s announcement, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement denouncing the move as a merit-less abuse of power and a distraction from the radically leftward drift and growing internal problems for the Democratic Party.
“Today, Chairman Nadler opened up a disgraceful and abusive investigation into tired, false allegations already investigated by the Special Counsel and committees in both chambers of Congress,” said Sanders.
“Chairman Nadler and his fellow Democrats have embarked on this fishing expedition because they are terrified that their two-year false narrative of ‘Russia collusion’ is crumbling,” she added. “Their intimidation and abuse of American citizens is shameful.”

“The Democrats are more interested in pathetic political games and catering to a radical, leftist base than on producing results for our citizens. The Democrats are not after the truth, they are after the president,” she concluded.
“Desperate witch hunt”
Kayleigh McEnany, national press secretary for the Trump 2020 campaign, also characterized Nadler’s actions as a “desperate witch hunt” launched by desperate Democrats who fear that their party will be unable to defeat the incumbent president in the next election.
“This is a dramatic overreach by House Democrats, who can’t control their zeal to overturn President Trump’s lawful and legitimate election by any means and process necessary,” said McEnany.
She added, “This is abuse of power in the extreme and a reckless use of the solemn authority granted to Congress by the people of this nation.”
