In the eyes of many Americans, the FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on Monday was clearly an unprecedented partisan hit against the chief political rival of President Joe Biden.
That viewpoint is shared by some outside of America, too, such as El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, who sarcastically pondered on social media what the Biden administration’s reaction would be if he had done the exact same thing to one of his political rivals, the Washington Examiner reported.
What would happen if …?
“What would the US Government say, if OUR police raided the house of one of the main possible contenders of OUR 2024 presidential election?” President Bukele wrote, followed by the “thinking face” emoji, in a tweet posted Monday evening.

It isn’t hard to guess that, most likely, the Biden administration would quite hypocritically condemn a Bukele-ordered raid on his partisan opponents’ homes as being an unquestionably politically motivated act of corruption.
That is because the Biden administration has already routinely denounced the right-leaning populist Bukele’s El Salvador as a corrupt regime and worked to isolate him on the international stage while imposing economic sanctions against top members of his administration, according to Americas Quarterly.
Yet, Bukele has been loudly defiant and embraced an oppositional posture toward Biden, even sarcastically adopting the title of “dictator” on Twitter — a platform he makes prodigious use of — when accused of being one by Biden-aligned critics in the U.S.
Further, he remains incredibly popular among his Salvadoran constituents, largely due to his populist policies, his refusal to impose harsh COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, and a substantial reduction in gang violence and murders.
Trump denounced the FBI’s “political persecution” of him
Meanwhile, former President Trump himself issued a statement Monday night and lamented, “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.”
He went on to assert that “It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024.”
“Such an assault could only take place in broken, Third-World Countries. Sadly, America has now become one of those countries, corrupt at a level not seen before,” Trump insisted.
In conclusion, the former president declared of the concerted partisan opposition against him, “The lawlessness, political persecution, and Witch Hunt must be exposed and stopped.”
