Conservatives want Donald Trump to stand firm on the wall — and so does radio personality Rush Limbaugh.
Limbaugh believes that if Trump does not give in, Democrats will be forced to give him the funding he needs to build the entire wall.
In recent days, Democrats are pulling out all of the stops to put pressure on Trump to cave on financing for his border wall.
Most recently, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) asked the president to postpone his upcoming State of the Union Address to Congress, as the shutdown is still ongoing.
The speaker knows Trump particularly enjoys this moment, and robbing him of it is a definite shot across the bow.
Pelosi has asked the speech be put off until the government is fully operational.
She also gave the president the option to submit his speech in writing and not actually give it in person.
But knowing Trump, it is unlikely he will do either.
The main reason Pelosi cited for wanting to delay the speech was the security of attendees.
However, the Secret Service and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen were quick to smother Pelosi’s concerns.
They said full protection would be provided, even though agents are not currently receiving paychecks.
Meanwhile, Limbaugh more or less believes that Democrats like Pelosi will run out of time long before the president does on this issue.
“I’m just gonna tell you point-blank: Donald Trump can win this if he hangs on,” Limbaugh said.
“It’s gonna be a few more weeks. It’s gonna be risky,” he added. “But I, actually, folks, really believe that if he hangs on and continues down this road, at some point there’s gonna be a shift in public opinion and the vast majority of the American people are gonna end up with him on this – if he hangs in there.”
Limbaugh also emphasized that this shutdown serves more than just its obvious purpose.
Conservatives are adamant that we need less government, something a prolonged shutdown will prove can work.
Many of us believe the government is filled with excessive fat that needs to be trimmed.
By existing with a shutdown this long, Americans will finally realize we can — and would — survive without such an extensive government structure.
It’s a win for the right all around so far. Stay strong, Mr. President.
