Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) took aim at President Joe Biden and declared that offering a ‘blank check’ to Ukraine without an objective was unacceptable.
DeSantis made the comment during an interview with Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” and it indicates that DeSantis is interested in getting involved with national politics with 2024 right around the corner.
DeSantis is seen by many as a strong contender for the Republican presidential nomination and while he hasn’t said anything yet, it seems highly likely that he will run for President in 2024.
For now, DeSantis has seen fit to call out President Biden for his directionless and harmful handling of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
No objective
During the interview, DeSantis explained that “These things can escalate and I don’t think it’s in our interest to be getting into a proxy war with China getting involved over things like the borderlands, or over Crimea. So I think it would behoove them to identify what is the strategic objective that they’re trying to achieve. But just saying it’s an open-ended, blank check, that is not acceptable.”
The one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine is on Friday and over the past year, the Biden administration has sent nearly a quarter of a trillion dollars to Kyiv to fend off Russia.
Unfortunately, the billions of taxpayer dollars sent overseas have seemingly done nothing to bring the war to an end as the conflict has ground into a brutal stalemate.
Despite all this, President Biden has been content to declare that the United States stands alongside Ukraine no matter what, and no matter how many billions of dollars it costs.
What about America?
The nation is in tremendous debt and Americans are getting crushed by inflation.
The Biden administration has failed to demonstrate why crippling ourselves financially is worth it, especially considering Russia poses little threat to the United States.
Later in the interview, DeSantis commented that “They’ve [Russia] shown themselves to be a third-rate military power, I think they’ve suffered tremendous, tremendous losses. I’ve got to think the people of Russia are probably disapproving of what’s going on. I don’t think they can speak up about it, for obvious reasons.”
Dangerous foreign policy
As long as the war drags on, American dollars will continue to flow overseas and Americans will just have to trust that money is used well.
All of this is happening as China appears to be getting more involved in the war as well. President Biden is digging us into debt while also bringing us toward a confrontation with two nuclear-capable countries.
Perhaps Ron DeSantis is the man who can step in and steer the nation away from a pointless war and fix our nation’s devastated finances.
