ESPN anchor Sage Steele ripped off the air following controversial comments

We just got more evidence of the ideological left’s takeover of corporate America.

Anchor Sage Steele of ESPN’s Sportscenter has been yanked off the air, Fox News reports, after making controversial comments on a recent podcast.

Controversial comments

Those comments, uttered on a podcast with former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, included Steele describing the vaccine mandate imposed by ESPN’s parent company, Disney, as “sick” and “scary.”

“I respect everyone’s decision — I really do,” she said, “but to mandate it is, um, sick, and is scary to me in many ways. But I have a job, a job that I love and, frankly, a job that I need — but, again, I love it — but I’m not surprised it got to this point, especially with Disney, I mean, a global company.”

That’s not all

She also reportedly made a remark about former President Barack Obama’s race.

“If they make you choose a race [on the U.S. Census form], she’s like ‘What are you going to put?’ And I go, ‘Both.’ And she’s like, ‘Well, you can’t,'” Steele said, according to Fox. “She goes, ‘Barack Obama chose Black and he’s biracial.’ And I’m like, ‘Congratulations to the president. That’s his thing. I think that’s fascinating considering his Black dad was nowhere to be found and his white mom and grandma raised him, but hey, you do you. I’m going to do me.'”

Ripped off the airwaves

In a statement obtained by Fox News, ESPN said the network embraces “different points of view — dialogue and discussion makes this place great.”

“That said, we expect that those points of view be expressed respectfully, in a manner consistent with our values, and in line with our internal policies,” the company said. “We are having direct conversations with Sage, and those conversations will remain private.”

ESPN also provided to Fox a statement from Steele herself, which read:

I know my recent comments created controversy for the company, and I apologize. We are in the midst of an extremely challenging time that impacts all of us, and it’s more critical than ever that we communicate constructively and thoughtfully.

According to Fox, Steele was yanked off the air for a week amid a backlash over her remarks, though some have blamed her absence on her recent positive test for COVID-19. Her appearance at a network event for women in sports was also reportedly canceled.
