Of the many elected Democrats who helped perpetuate the now-debunked theory that President Donald Trump colluded with the Russian government in the 2016 election, California Rep. Adam Schiff was arguably the worst.
Now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has found no evidence of such collusion after two years of investigation, Schiff has been called out for his lies by his Republican colleagues, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (FL), who is demanding that Schiff is held accountable.
Forcing Schiff out?
Gaetz filed a resolution in the House on Wednesday demanding that Schiff
Gaetz referenced President Trump’s new nickname for Schiff, “Pencil Neck,” with the title of his measure: the Preventing Extreme Negligence with Classified Intelligence Licenses, or “PENCIL,” resolution.
He shared the resolution in a tweet on Wednesday:
#BREAKING: Today I filed the “PENCIL Act,” expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that “Congressman Adam Schiff should be removed from the House Intelligence Committee and his security clearance immediately revoked.” pic.twitter.com/1FsMt6NUjr— Rep. Matt Gaetz (@RepMattGaetz) April 11, 2019
Relying on liars
Rep. Gaetz discussed his new resolution against Schiff, among other things, during an appearance Wednesday on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program.
“I have filed legislation today, sent to the House, that Adam Schiff needs to be removed from the Intelligence Committee,” Gaetz said, “because how are the rest of us supposed to be able to rely on a man, who you just showed lied to the American people when he said that there was not spying? Or when he lied and said that there was actual evidence of collusion or clear evidence of collusion?
“If Adam Schiff is able to review covert operations and intelligence, and if we have to rely on his representation, our whole system is broken,” Gaetz added. “It would be like putting Lori Loughlin in charge of the college board. It would be like putting Jussie Smollett in charge of the hate crime division of the FBI.”
Carlson apparently agreed with the Florida congressman.
“In 35 years of watching Congress, I’ve never seen a member of Congress with lower personal integrity than Adam Schiff,” Carlson said, “and it is shocking to me that he chairs that committee.”
Adam Schiff was at the forefront of those pushing the Russian collusion nonsense, and even now that it has been disproved by no less than Mueller, Schiff continues to lie about collusion evidence, which he says is still out there.
This delusional and conspiratorial stance is simply unacceptable for a member of Congress in his position. Period.
