Republican leaders are bringing their battle over vaccine mandates into the courtroom.
After President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he would move to require millions of Americans to get vaccinated for COVID-19, GOP attorneys general across the country voiced their plans to fight back in court.
According to the Daily Caller, attorneys general in states including Arizona, Montana, Indiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Georgia, and South Carolina have all vowed legal action.
“We must fight back”
In Arizona, Attorney General Mark Brnovich said he’s “reviewing [Biden’s] outrageous actions and will take all legal recourse to defend our state’s sovereignty and the rights of Arizonans to make the best health care decisions for themselves.”
Missouri AG Eric Schmitt expressed a similar sentiment.
“Biden’s historic overreach on vaccine mandates will not stand in Missouri,” he said in a tweet, according to the Daily Caller. “We’re at a crossroads in America — who we are and what we’re going to be. We must fight back.”
“Our patience is wearing thin”
It all comes after Biden unveiled Thursday his latest plan to get the coronavirus pandemic under control.
Part of that involves “vaccinating the unvaccinated,” and Biden is putting his words into action by ordering the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to institute a mandate requiring “all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result on at least a weekly basis.”
Biden had long insisted he wouldn’t take such a step, but during his Thursday speech, the president seemed to shift his tone.
“We’ve been patient,” he said, according to Breitbart, “but our patience is wearing thin.”
Altogether, about 100 million Americans could be affected by Biden’s mandate, according to Fox News. In addition to employees of large companies, this also includes health care workers employed in facilities that receive federal funding through Medicare or Medicaid.
But Republicans hope to quash the mandates before they ever really get off the ground. According to Breitbart, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Thursday that as soon as Biden’s “decree” becomes effective, “the RNC will sue the administration to protect Americans and their liberties.”
