Republicans Move to Impeach Pennsylvania Judges Over Re-Districting Decision

Republicans are ramping up for the mid-term election battles and an elected representative in Pennsylvania are drawing a clear line on the battlefield.

Rep. Cris Dush has accused four state Supreme Court Justices of misbehavior in office and has filed resolutions to have them impeached.

There is a fifth resolution for the final Supreme Court Justice pending.

Justices Accused of ‘Gerrymandering’

During the 2016 elections, Republicans won 13 of 18 seats.

After the elections were over, the justices issued an order to have the district maps redrawn.

If the district maps were not redrawn, the justices threatened to do the redistricting themselves.

Rep. Dush obviously believes this was done to help Democrats win the 2018 mid-term elections.

5 Justices Threatened with Impeachment

So far, Dush has introduced resolutions that would impeach Justices Kevin Dougherty, Christine Donahue, Debra McClosky Todd, and David Wecht.

The resolution that is still pending is to have Justice Max Baer impeached.

Overstepping Their Boundaries

Dush sent a memo to his fellow House members saying these justices have overstepped judicial authority with their actions.

He stated, “The five Justices who signed this order that blatantly and clearly contradicts the plain language of the Pennsylvania Constitution engaged in misbehavior in office.”

The U.S. Supreme court has already denied the case, so Dush is now hoping his fellow members of the state legislature will do the right thing.

If this remapping of the districts goes through, it is estimated that Democrats will then be able to pick up at least two additional seats in the U.S. House.

While Republicans are obviously furious over the proposed remapping, Democrats are calling the new maps “fair.”

Governor Tom Wolf, a Democrat, stated, “The people of Pennsylvania are tired of the gerrymandering and the new map corrects past mistakes that created unfair Congressional Districts and attempted to diminish the impact of citizens’ votes.”

Funny how nobody has said anything until after the Republicans took over the White House. Now Democrats are looking to get any advantage they can get, even it if means violating their own state constitutions to do it!
