President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and even a handful of Senate Republicans celebrated the passing of the president’s “bipartisan,” $1.2 trillion infrastructure package in the upper chamber on Tuesday.
However, the celebrations might have been premature, as according to a Breitbart exclusive, some, including Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN), are predicting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will hold the bill “hostage” by not calling a vote on the bill until a second, enormously expensive $3.5 trillion “human infrastructure” bill is sent to her desk.
In other words, House Dem support for President Joe Biden’s legacy-level infrastructure bill could hinge on what the Senate does with the second bill — a budget reconciliation bill packed with shocking amounts of Democrat wish-list items.
Holding it hostage?
Hagerty told Breitbart that he firmly believes Pelosi will hold true to her threats of making sure the first bill passes only if the second bill rides alongside it.
“So what [Nancy Pelosi] will be in a position to do now is hold the infrastructure package hostage, and use that as pressure to force the Senate Democrats to all walk in line to vote in the [$3.5 trillion package],” Hagerty said.
He added: “Because if [Senate Democrats] don’t vote for what is called a reconciliation bill — that they’re going to use to put Bernie Sanders’ new transformative package through — if they don’t vote for that $3.5 trillion package, the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package will never see the light of day. That’s what she’s in a position threaten right now.”
Hagerty went on to warn that the two bills, when combined, equal a $5 trillion package that will vastly expand government control and power.
“[The two bills] put more and more government control in play. They make America far more dependent on government, far more control over every aspect of society and our economy,” Hagerty said, adding that it’ll push America closer to full-blown socialism than ever before.
Some House Dems worried
While the radically progressive members of the Democratic Party are licking their chops at the very idea of the second bill passing, some House Democrats are beginning to worry that Pelosi’s insistence that the two bill be tied together could be a huge mistake.
According to a previous Breitbart report, Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Jared Golden (D-ME) recently urged the speaker to consider separating the two bills, citing the potential effect that the second, much larger bill could have on an inflation-ridden economy.
“We have concerns about the specific components of that potential package,” the two Dems wrote. “These specifics are crucial, particularly given the combined threat of rising inflation, national debt, and the trillions recently, and appropriately, allocated to the COVID-19 emergency.”
Only time will tell if Pelosi chooses to satisfy her radically progressive colleagues or gives in and gets Biden’s infrastructure bill passed without distractions.
