Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) created quite a buzz by putting a deadline on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russian probe report.
During a recent radio interview, Grassley said he expects to see the report out “within a month.”
Grassley also stated he supported transparency and wants the Justice Department to release the report in that spirit.
How It Got Started
The idea the Mueller report will be out soon got started by Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, who said recently that Mueller was in the final stages of the investigation and it should be wrapped up soon. Mueller’s office, however, has refused to comment on its status.
Grassley used that report as the basis of his statement and for some reason, it blew up all over the Internet as though he has personal assurances from Mueller the investigation was almost over.
Walking It Back
As rumors ran rampant, Grassley was fairly quick to walk back his timeline on when we can expect the report to be submitted.
The Senator admitted he had made an assumption based on the reports of what Whitaker said, and even admitted he never should have used that as the basis for his comments.
However, Grassley also stated he wants this investigation wrapped up ASAP and wants that report out just as quickly.
Don’t Expect Much
Mueller was tasked with finding collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.
He has found tax cheats and liars, but no collusion. After two years and tens of millions of taxpayer dollars being wasted, most would agree it’s time to wrap up this investigation.
Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Bill Barr, has already stated he will not fire Mueller without cause. However, he did not say anything about lighting a fire under him to complete the investigation if he has no evidence of collusion.
Like Grassley, we all want this ended so we can finally put this behind us and continue working to MAGA.
