Republican congressman released from hospital following surgery

Finally, some good news when it comes to Republicans with medical issues.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-Jefferson) has been released from the hospital after having a successful surgical procedure.

The Injury

Almost a year ago, Congressman Scalise thought he would never live to see this day.

While playing a baseball game with his fellow congressman, Scalise was struck down in a hail of gunfire.

A lone gunman, who had reportedly staked out the field, opened fire on the congressmen.

The shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was later killed in a gunfight with police.

But, the damage had been done.

In addition to Scalise being hit, two members of the Capitol Police were also wounded.

At the time of the attack, Scalise had been standing on second base, and was struck in the hip by the gunfire.

Recovering

As an ongoing effort to recover from the injury, the Congressman has scheduled this surgery.

According to a statement from his office, “The planned surgery was successful.”

Rep. Scalise is expected to remain home for the next few days while he recovers from the procedure.

Big Deal

His recovery is of interest to conservatives, as he will play a big role moving forward.

Current Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is not expected to run for re-election.

Scalise is one of the prominent names that keeps coming up as a possible successor.

With Trump and Ryan not exactly seeing eye-to-eye in all areas, it will be nice to have someone on in the role that will actually support Trump and his overall agenda.
