Report: Taliban holding Americans ‘hostage’ to get more from US government

President Joe Biden’s Afghanistan blunder continues to cause trouble for his administration — and Democrats in general — as new reports emerge of what’s happening on the ground in Kabul.

According to The Daily Wire, the latest horrific development in a string of bad news are reports indicating that Taliban terrorists are not allowing planes carrying American citizens to leave the country. To many, the situation is now a textbook American hostage scenario.

What’s going on?

Thankfully, most mainstream media outlets — which typically provide political cover for the Biden administration — are covering the horrific developments on the ground in Kabul.

It was CBS News that reported, according to their NGO sources, “multiple planes that are ready to take American citizens and green card holders out of the country are being denied permission to leave by the Taliban.”

Correspondent Christina Ruffini tweeted several updates on the situation, and at one point relayed a report saying that a senior congressional source believes that a hostage — or ransom — situation is developing on the ground in Kabul.

Ruffini tweeted Sunday: “An email from the State Department to members of congress — and viewed by CBS — acknowledged that charter flights are still on the ground at the Mazar-i-Sharif airstrip and have permission to land in Doha “if and when the Taliban agrees to takeoff.”

She added: “‘The Taliban is basically holding them hostage to get more out of the Americans,’ a senior congressional source told CBS News.”

It gets worse

The report detailed specifics for certain groups of American citizens who are apparently desperately attempting to escape from the Taliban-controlled country before the situation on the ground worsens in the coming days and weeks.

“The group Ascend, an NGO that teaches young women leadership through athletics, told CBS News they have two planes that have been waiting for six days ready to take between 600 and 1,200 people — including 19 American citizens and two permanent residents,” the report said.

It added: “The planes are not currently loaded. The passengers are being held nearby, because the Taliban won’t let them into the airport, according to a senior congressional source.”

A number of Republican congressmen have leveled criticism against the Biden administration for that very reason, predicting days ago that the Taliban would likely attempt to take hostages to strengthen their leverage against the U.S. government.

Only time will tell if Biden’s top officials manage to get the stranded Americans out of Afghanistan before something really bad happens — again — but so far, confidence in a positive outcome seems to be quite low.
