Report: speculation continues about a 2024 replacement for Biden

A new report from the Daily Caller indicates that speculation has continued about a replacement for President Joe Biden for 2024 – this is despite the fact that the White House has made it clear that Biden intends to run again.

This speculation really picked up a couple of weeks ago when the New York Times published a report writing that “many Democratic lawmakers and party officials are venting their frustrations with President Biden’s struggle to advance the bulk of his agenda, doubting his ability to rescue the party from a predicted midterm trouncing, and increasingly viewing him as an anchor that should be cut loose in 2024.”

In that report, a Democratic insider stated plainly that Biden’s age is a large part of the problem, in addition to the failures stated above.

The Biden White House responded to this report by declaring that Biden “plans to run in 2024.” The hope was, clearly, to dispel all of this 2024 speculation. But, according to the Daily Caller’s new report, it just hasn’t worked.

Biden’s multiple problems

The Daily Caller highlights two big problems that Democrats see with Biden heading forward. One is his failure to address the crises that Americans are facing.

The Daily Caller reports:

Biden has been plagued with a series of crises since taking office – a disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan, record-high inflation, skyrocketing gas prices, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a baby formula shortage, and more. How he’s handled each situation is reflected in his poll numbers, which recently slipped for the fourth straight week, according to a Reuters-Ipsos poll published Wednesday.

Biden’s other problem is his age.

Many Democrats have been raising this issue, including, most recently, Andrew Yang. Yang stated that Biden’s “age will be a legitimate issue for many voters,” noting that Biden is “already the oldest president we’ve had even before his potential second term.”

If not Biden, who?

This, of course, is the big question. Typically, one would expect the vice president to be the president’s replacement should he choose not to run for a second term. But, Vice President Kamala Harris is likely even less of a viable presidential candidate than Biden.

According to the Daily Caller, though, the Democrats have plenty of other potential 2024 candidates.

These candidates include “Governors Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Phil Murphy of New Jersey, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Jared Polis of Colorado, Gavin Newsom of California, and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan.” They also, according to the Daily Caller, include previous candidates, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

The bottom line, though, is that it is looking more and more like the Democratic Party is planning on moving on from Biden in the 2024 presidential election.
