Democrats must be growing worried as one of their own may have just flipped and is reportedly now helping investigators with their probe into the origins of the Russia collusion hoax.
The man who is said to have flipped is none other than former FBI general counsel James Baker.
Time to worry
News of the change came on Friday from One America News Network (OANN) reporter Jack Posobiec. “BREAKING: Former FBI general counsel James Baker has reportedly ‘flipped’ and is now cooperating with the Barr-Durham investigation into the origins of the Russia investigation,” Posobiec tweeted.
In an exclusive interview with Posobiec, Ned Ryun of conservative group American Majority said, “I do believe that Baker has flipped based off my sources that have known and worked with Baker for years.”
If Ryun’s sources are correct, the investigation with which Baker would now be helping is the one currently being led by Attorney General William Barr and Connecticut Attorney John Durham into the origins of the Russian collusion hoax.
The timing is likely not insignificant.
Investigations ramps up
This week, it was reported that Barr had converted his and Durham’s investigation into a criminal one.
“For more than two years, President Trump has repeatedly attacked the Russia investigation, portraying it as a hoax and illegal even months after the special counsel closed it,” wrote Katie Benner and Adam Goldman of the New York Times, which first published the news. “Now, Mr. Trump’s own Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into how it all began.”
The importance of the change in the nature of the investigation is that it will give Barr and Durham powers that they otherwise did not have, such as the ability to subpoena witnesses and documents, the ability to impanel a grand jury, the ability to file criminal charges, and so on.
On a more superficial level, it lets all those who were involved with the origins of the Russian collusion hoax know that things have just gotten serious.
Defenses already erected
In the same Times article, the writes noted: “The opening of a criminal investigation is likely to raise alarms that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies.” This is the criticism that Barr and Durham will now have to face.
For many Americans, however, it is about time that someone holds these individuals accountable for what clearly looks to have been an inside job.
