One of the most unlikely couples in Washington comprises the anti-Trump writer George Conway and his pro-Trump wife Kellyanne Conway, a senior White House counselor. Given that the two are on opposing sides of the political fence, fans of Kellyanne have always feared for her marriage — and it now, appears that those fears may have been well-founded.
According to a Thursday report from Vanity Fair, George Conway has distanced himself from wife Kellyanne since the start of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
“She’s in a cult”
For its report, Vanity Fair cited “three sources close to George” who say that while George still loves Kellyanne, he wants his wife to leave the “cult.”
This, apparently, is the term George uses to save face with his friends, given that he is married to a Trump supporter. “He tells people she’s in a cult,” the source said.
Another source revealed that George is “going through a tough time.” The third individual, using George’s own language, stated that “it’s not going to get better until [Kellyanne is] cast out of the cult.”
If this is indeed the ultimatum that Mrs. Conway is currently facing, then we certainly feel for her.
“You’re a disgrace”
Indeed, if George and Kellyanne are being driven apart, it appears that the impeachment inquiry is at least partly to blame. But perhaps the bigger culprit is the mainstream media.
This week, for example, MSNBC had George on for an interview to discuss the impeachment hearings.
“You wanted to put it in my husband’s voice because you think somehow that that will help your ratings or that you’re really sticking it to Kellyanne Conway,” Kellyanne later said, according to USA Today.
She went on: “And let me be very clear: You didn’t stick it to Kellyanne Conway. I think you embarrassed yourself, and I’m embarrassed for you.”
Joining Kellyanne’s defense was Donald Trump, Jr., who tweeted Friday:
A guy who routinely & publicly embarrasses his wife by attacking her boss for the purpose of getting retweets and building his own brand is giving lectures on honor, integrity & decency. 🙄
I’m sure your family really appreciates it, George. You’re a disgrace. https://t.co/KRMMlxKyVh

Hopefully, Vanity Fair’s report is just gossip, and Kellyanne’s marriage is doing just fine. But only time will tell.
