An FBI official who was integral to what appears to have been a plan to protect Hunter Biden from investigation or prosecution is accused of having “scrubbed and diluted” political bias in his work.
A new report from Fox News also reveals that the same official violated the federal Hatch Act in political posts on social media.
The report said this was the same official who earlier was accused by whistleblowers of showing a “pattern of active public partisanship,” which probably affected investigations into President Donald Trump and Hunter Biden.
It was Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who referred Timothy Thibault for investigation.
Thibault was a Washington Field Office assistant special agent in charge but later quit.
The investigation was sought after whistleblowers contacted Grassley charging Thibault with being instrumental in opening an investigation into the Trump campaign, which came about partly because of information sourced from a “left-aligned” group, the report said.
They apparently told Grassley that Thibault opened a full investigation by “circumventing” the normal process.
The report explained, “Grassley had learned through whistleblowers that Thibault’s opening memo calling for a full investigation, which was ultimately approved by FBI Director Chris Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, allegedly ‘scrubbed and diluted’ details of the sources’ political bias.
Fox reported it discovered Thibault ordered shut down one pathway of “derogatory Hunter Biden reporting," at a time when Biden’s business dealers were under investigation.
Hunter Biden now faces gun charges and tax charges, and there could be other charges that develop as Congress continues to investigate.
Fox obtained the information when it accessed a letter the Office of Special Counsel sent to Grassley.
”This letter responds to your request that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General, and Federal Bureau of Investigation investigate former FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault and allegations that he engaged in prohibited political activity on social media” it explains.
It explains that the office as “exclusive” jurisdiction over Hatch Act violations.
”Although Mr. Thibault has left government service, we completed our investigation and concluded that he violated the Hatch Act,” the letter confirmed.
It cited Thibault’s social media posts which quoted leftist groups, and said that violated a ban on promoting partisan messaging.
That means he was working “in concert” with a partisan group.
Grassley told Fox federal workers “should not blur their official business with their political viewpoints.”
