Rep. Swalwell predicts 'time of death' of Biden's impeachment inquiry

 March 21, 2024

President Joe Biden's impeachment inquiry has dominated headlines this week, but for different reasons on each side of the political aisle.

Most Democrats are convinced -- at least that's what they say in public -- that the impeachment inquiry isn't going anywhere at this point and accuse Republicans of wasting time and resources on it. Obviously, many Republicans beg to differ.

According to The Hill, one Democrat who's convinced that the impeachment already has a "time of death" is Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA).

Swalwell, like many of his colleagues, are not convinced that Republicans in charge of the impeachment proceedings have the required evidence to make it happen.

What did he say?

At a fiery House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on Wednesday regarding the impeachment inquiry, Swalwell made it clear that he doesn't believe Republican can bring the inquiry across the finish line.

"I dare you impeach," Swalwell said directly to committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), who has led the charge in the investigation into the Biden family and their questionable business practices worldwide.

"But you won’t, because you don’t have the evidence. And because you don’t have the evidence, you don’t have the votes. Guys, it’s dead. And so, I’m here to pronounce the time of death."

"5:16, Biden impeachment’s dead," Swalwell said. "Joe Biden has been acquitted."

The Hill noted:

The California Democrat then stood up and wrote “5:16 [p.m.]” on a board held by a person behind him that had the words “BIDEN IMPEACHMENT TIME OF DEATH” across the top.

Parroting other Dems

Earlier, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made headlines after offering similar predictions.

She insisted that the GOP has "no charges," adding, "At this point, the story isn’t the fact that the basis of this impeachment inquiry is wrong. The story is, ‘Why it is proceeding anyway?’”

She added, "I have yet to hear in the chairman’s opening the allegation that they are specifically charging the president of the United States with. I am hearing about the ‘Biden family.’ I am hearing about this and that. I am not hearing the specific allegation by this committee. What is it? It is not here. And that is the problem."

Despite the desperate attempt to protect the elderly Democratic president, Republicans remain sure that enough evidence will be presented to move the ball forward. Let's hope so.
