Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki attempted to praise President Joe Biden’s leadership and work ethic on Monday but may, in fact, have actually done the exact opposite of what she intended.
In reference to a brief speech that Biden delivered that morning, Psaki asserted that her former boss literally “does nothing at 9 am because he is a “night owl,” the Western Journal reported.
Except, that claim doesn’t align particularly well with prior reporting about the daily routine of the famously “early-to-bed, early-to-rise” president.
Biden’s 9 am speech
It was at 9 am sharp on Monday that President Biden delivered a brief five-minute speech to share with the American people what his administration was doing in response to the financial collapse of and related bank runs on the Silicon Valley Bank.
He asserted that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, or FDIC, had taken over the SVB and would cover all of the lost funds of the depositors, even above and beyond the $250,000 max limit, and would supposedly do so with bank fees and not taxpayer money.
Biden also insisted that the bank’s management should be entirely fired, that investors would have to accept their losses, that a “full accounting” of what happened was necessary, that regulations should be strengthened to prevent similar occurrences in the future, and, of course, that everything that happened was the fault of his predecessor.
Psaki said what?
After that speech, Psaki, who is now an MSNBC contributor, reacted to President Biden’s remarks and sought to present a narrative that the timing of the speech that morning was in and of itself a clear sign of how seriously he and his administration were taking the SVB collapse.
“Now, it is important to note, President Biden does nothing at 9 am,” Psaki stated. “He is a night owl,” she added, “so the fact that he’s doing this at 9 am anyway speaks to how vital the White House recognizes that it is for him to have his voice out there conveying that to the American public.”

CNN tells a different story about Biden’s daily routine
That video clip was shared by Chad Gilmartin, a former special assistant to former President Donald Trump and his press team who now serves as a deputy spokesman for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
Yet, in addition to the clip, Gilmartin also shared a 2021 CNN article that described in some detail what President Biden’s daily routine was and how it differed from that of his most recent predecessors, such as Trump and former President Barack Obama.
“He has established a regular schedule, including coffee in the mornings with the first lady, meetings and phone calls from the Oval Office starting just after 9 a.m. and a return to his residence by 7 p.m.,” CNN reported. Thus, contrary to Psaki’s claim, Biden does indeed do something at 9 am, namely getting started with his day with meetings and phone calls and, presumably, the occasional speech when required.
But wait, because there is more. Again in contradiction to Psaki’s claims, CNN reported, “Unlike his most recent predecessors — night owls who spent the dark hours reading briefing materials (President Barack Obama) or watching television (President Donald Trump) — Biden is more of an early-to-bed type.”
If CNN’s reporting on Biden’s daily routine is accurate — and given his age, we have no reason to believe it has substantially changed in two years — then that means that Psaki is a liar. If Psaki’s account was the truth, however, aside from proving once again that CNN is “fake news,” it also reveals that Biden does nothing for the vast majority of any given 24-hour period in a job that demands action and readiness at any point during the morning, afternoon, evening, or nighttime.
