As the country is now well aware, former President Donald Trump could be indicted as soon as this week, according to widespread reporting

The former president, who has long denied any wrongdoing in the case involving alleged hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, took to his Truth Social platform to not only slam the prosecutors in the case, but also called on his tens of millions of supporters to take direct action.

Reports last indicated that law enforcement agencies were already coordinating in the event that Trump is indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Given the unprecedented nature of the possibility of arresting a former president, speculation as to how it would play out is anyone's guess.

Trump doubles down

The bulk of the mainstream media jumped on a number of Trump's posts in which he called on his supporters to "protest" the indictment, with many of the networks hyping up the possibility of another Jan. 6 type of event, offering nothing in the way of proof.

"OUR NATION IS NOW THIRD WORLD & DYING. THE AMERICAN DREAM IS DEAD! THE RADICAL LEFT ANARCHISTS HAVE STOLLEN OUR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, AND WITH IT, THE HEART OF OUR OUR COUNTRY," Trump wrote in one Truth Social post.

He added: "AMERICAN PATRIOTS ARE BEING ARRESTED & HELD IN CAPTIVITY LIKE ANIMALS, WHILE CRIMINALS & LEFTIST THUGS ARE ALLOWED TO ROAM THE STREETS, KILLING & BURNING WITH NO RETRIBUTION. MILLIONS ARE FLOODING THROUGH OUR OPEN BOARDERS, MANY FROM PRISONS & MENTAL INSTITUTIONS. CRIME & INFLATION ARE DESTROYING OUR VERY WAY OF LIFE..."

In another post, Trump concluded by writing, "PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!"

The Biden administration has remained mostly silent on the issue, at least so far.

What's the charge?

Even though federal officials declined to pursue the case, Bragg moved forward with it in what many believe to be nothing more than an old-fashioned political witch hunt.

NBC News explains:

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, pleaded guilty in 2018 to a federal charge relating to a $130,000 payment to Daniels, an adult film star, in the closing days of the 2016 campaign. Daniels has said the money was to keep her quiet about her claim that she’d slept with the married Trump in 2006, an allegation Trump denies.

Trump's attorneys have stated that if the former president is, in fact, charged, and forced to surrender to authorities, he will comply.

Only time will tell if that comes to fruition, but either way, the coming days could make for a wild turn of events in America.
