New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and President Donald Trump have known each other for decades. As such, it was no surprise to see the media ask the president what he thought about the criminal charges that have been handed down to Kraft for solicitation of prostitution.
Trump kept his comments brief, stating: “Surprised to see it. He has denied it.”
The president went on to say it is a “very sad situation.”
Kraft was apparently caught up in a massive prostitution sting in Jupiter, FL.
Police were especially interested in this case due to suspected human trafficking, though Kraft was not accused of being involved in that aspect of the operation.
Almost immediately after the charges were announced against Kraft, his legal team issued a statement denying his role in the crimes.
“We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity,” they said. “Because it is a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further.”
In addition to Kraft, two dozen other individuals were charged in this case.
There may be more high-profile names announced, but Kraft is by far the biggest at this point.
This news is a double-edged sword for Trump.
He will no doubt be tied to Kraft because of their friendship, but this also goes to show the very real problem of human trafficking in this country.
It would not be a stretch to say that virtually every big city in our country has operations like this one that we just don’t know about yet.
This is yet another reason why it’s imperative that we improve our border security.
