Biden official says ‘we have to prepare’ for a nuclear Iran

Robert Malley, the U.S. special envoy for Iran, has revealed that Biden administration is currently preparing for an unconstrained nuclear Iran, Breitbart reported Thursday.

Malley’s comments came during a virtual discussion on Wednesday that was held by Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The subject was the future of U.S. relations with Iran.

“We have to prepare for a world…where Iran doesn’t have constraints on its nuclear program,” Malley said, according to Breitbart.

“And we have to consider options to deal with that — which is what we’re doing — even as we hope that we can get back to the deal that is by far our preference,” he added.

“A critical point”

Malley’s remarks follow a recent warning from Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that Iran is edging closer to a nuclear weapon.

“Iran’s nuclear weapon program is at a critical point,” Bennett said last month, according to The Daily Wire. “Uranium to the level of 60%, which is only one step short of weapons-grade material.”

The Biden administration has been working to get both America and Iran back into the Obama-era nuclear deal known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Malley was actually a part of the team that negotiated this deal, and he is now blaming the current state of affairs on former President Donald Trump and his decision to exit it during his tenure.

Iran, for its part, has refused to directly speak to the Biden administration, despite the fact that the White House has expressed a willingness to remove the economic sanctions placed on the country by the Trump administration.

“Time is running short”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed this week that while the Biden administration will continue to seek negotiations with Iran, they acknowledge that the country is inching closer to a nuclear weapon.

“Iran has been using this time to advance its nuclear program in a variety of ways, including enriching uranium to 20% and even 60%, using more advanced centrifuges, acquiring more knowledge,” Blinken said, according to The Daily Wire.

Blinken also said that the Biden administration is “prepared to turn to other options if Iran doesn’t change course,” adding: “Time is running short.”
