Polling shows Trump closing the gap with Biden in key battleground states

Despite continued media reports focused on national and battleground-state polling results favorable to the Biden campaign, recent trends appear to show President Donald Trump closing the gap, as reported by the Daily Wire.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has enjoyed a comfortable cushion with his lead over Trump in many surveys taken over the past several months.

Biden’s lead shrinks

Amid criticism over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing civil unrest in cities nationwide, a number of pundits have seemed willing to write off Trump’s re-election bid as an all-but-impossible goal.

Nevertheless, the president has resumed daily coronavirus press briefings this month and a number of key metrics indicate his campaign is moving in the right direction.

While polls released in recent weeks have shown Biden with a significant lead in virtually every battleground state as well as competitive in normally red states like Texas, that tide appears to have shifted.

Change Research has been monitoring changes in election polls, finding in its most recent report that Biden’s leads have diminished in the critical states of Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Trump saw some of his biggest gains, however, in Minnesota, which was the epicenter of protests that spread out of Minneapolis when George Floyd died in police custody earlier this year.

“The puppet of the Left”

According to a recent Morning Consult poll, the president narrowed his deficit by five points between May and July in the state and now trails the former vice president by just three points.

Although Biden has distanced himself from the call of progressive protesters to “defund the police,” Trump continues to portray him as a tool of the far left who would usher in a period of national violence and crime.

“The Fake News Media is trying to portray the Portland and Seattle ‘protesters’ as wonderful, sweet and innocent people just out for a little stroll,” the president tweeted earlier this week.

He went on to say that the demonstrators are actually “sick and deranged Anarchists & Agitators who our great men & women of Law Enforcement easily control, but who would destroy our American cities, and worse, if Sleepy Joe Biden, the puppet of the Left, ever won.”

With the first presidential debate set for September, it remains to be seen whether more exposure will be a positive or negative for Biden, who has spent much of the campaign at home amid the continuing pandemic.
