While a number of national and battleground-state polls show presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden with a healthy lead over President Donald Trump, one new poll shows the incumbent with promising results across much of the U.S.
According to Breitbart, the recently released results from a survey conducted by the American Principles Project and SPRY show Trump as the current leader in several key battleground states.
“Still has much work to do”
“It is clear from our polling that the reports of President Trump’s impending electoral doom are greatly exaggerated,” wrote APP Executive Director Terry Schilling. “While the Trump campaign still has much work to do in defining Joe Biden as a feckless enabler of the worst elements of the radical left, the fundamentals of this race are encouraging.”
Schilling went on to reveal that, although the president “trails in some battlegrounds, he also leads in several states where many political pundits have already written him off.”
According to the poll, Trump is beating Biden in Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Biden retains the lead in Arizona, Iowa, and Wisconsin, pollsters found.
As the APP revealed, its methodology closely models the 2016 general-election turnout.
“Polling was conducted in each of the ten states using a statewide, scientific sample of 42,000 likely General Election voters who voted in at least two of the last four elections (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018), as well as newly registered voters from May 1, 2018 to July 14, 2020,” the organization explained.
“The anticipated model”
According to the report, the model was designed to reflect the 2016 turnout, “which is the anticipated model for the 2020 General Election.” As for critical U.S. Senate races also appearing on November’s ballot, the same polling data shows a mixed bag.
The Senate vote to acquit Trump earlier this year in an impeachment trial that began in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives revealed that a GOP majority in the Senate is of utmost importance to the party.
The APP polling data shows Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) with a 22-point lead over his opponent. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) also has a double-digit lead over his challenger, leading Democrat M.J. Hegar 47% to 37%.
In Arizona, however, Republican Sen. Martha McSally trails her Democratic opponent by seven points. Likewise, Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa is behind her rival by a two-point margin.
While the polling results offer an encouraging update for the administration and Trump supporters nationwide, APP did have some constructive criticism for the campaign. It will now be up to the president and his advisers to decide whether they shift their messaging in portraying Biden as unfit to occupy the White House.
