President Joe Biden just received some bad news.
Breitbart reports that a new poll shows most Republicans in Arizona believe that an ongoing audit of the 2020 election in the state’s Maricopa County will show that former President Donald Trump — not Biden — came up victorious there.
The poll was conducted by OH Insights from July 6 to July 11. A full 863 registered Arizona voters participated, and of them, 35.3% were Republicans, 32.5% independents, and 32% Democrats.
The margin of error for the survey was plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
Pollsters had asked respondents plainly: “After the [Maricopa County] audit is completed, who do you believe will have received more votes in the 2020 presidential election, in Arizona?” In response, 62% of Republicans, 25% of independents, and 2% of Democrats said Trump would come out on top.
That’s opposed to 21% of Republicans, 54% of independents, and 89% of Democrats who said Biden. The rest were unsure.
Without regard to party affiliation, 51% of respondents said they thought Biden won the state without question, while 31% sided with Trump, and 15% were unsure.
OH Insights also asked participants whether they agreed with the statement: “Evidence has been uncovered which shows that the election was stolen from President Trump in a number of states that the media and election officials have called for Joe Biden.”
In response, 61% of Republicans said yes, as did 15% of Democrats. Roughly a quarter of independent voters also agreed, according to the poll.
The controversy about the results of the 2020 election in Arizona goes back to election night, when Fox News called the state for Biden in a move that many called premature. Since then, there have been claims from the former president and others that fraud took place in the state, robbing Trump of the victory.
In order to try to restore confidence in the elections process, the Arizona Senate, which is led by Republicans, is leading a forensic audit of the 2020 results. Democrats have criticized the effort as little more than a partisan ploy, and the audit appears stalled for now as reviewers await more information from state legislators.
Officially, Biden won the state of Arizona by less than 11,000 votes. Only time will tell, however, if further review prompts an adjustment in that number that could change how history remembers November 2020.
